The First Uplift and our relationship with the Aliens

Why did Humanity start uplifting other species? Well, unlike other Galactics, we thought we were alone well after space travel. It turns out most species are 'found' by a more technology adept species, and then introduced to the galactic milieu by their sponsors. Humanity appears to be unique that we showed up on our own, and then brought along our 'pets'. Generally, a species place and relationship in the Galactic hierarchy is based on who the sponsor is, and how long they've been about. The fact that Humans do not have a sponsor, use the wrong technology to get around space, and in generally violate all good reason has left our local neighbors.... confused.
