^^ A picture of the Layout of the Board the night before the session took place. Yellow figures are Morning Clan, Black figures are Crymson Clan, and Red figures are the Mist Clan and their Undead forces. The white spots were meant to be accumulations of fog and the red and yellow spots were fires. Blue figurines were bystanders that could be encountered. Our travelers began at the very bottom of the Board, where the two lines of 'fire' are.
The encounter was a chaotic free for all between 3 sides, one of which (The Morning Clan) our travelers were temporarily allied with. Though all sides had particular tactics, the most notable where the Mist Clan's use of undead. Most strikingly, the Banshee that appeared (seen on the top of the picture) took out almost all of the Crymson Clan's forces with one wail. Only 3 men survived, one of them being Nobu Oniwa.
The fire was meant to spread consistently, making the terrain more dangerous to traverse. This idea was not undertaken, however, and was only applied in a limited amount of situations.
The mist, as well, made escaping the battlefield difficult, as those with normal senses would have a hard time finding their way. Even worse, one wrong turn could take you toward a Mist Clan Assassin, who would attempt a lethal blow against any enemy that went through the alleyways.
No Ultimate winner was predetermined; even the Crymson Clan, who's forces were always to be weakened by the Banshee, was seen as a potential winner in the fight. Different endings were planned for different outcomes.
A gliding Banshee let out a piercing scream and with it, dozens of enemy soldiers, led by Nobu Oniwa, fell lifeless on the ground. The 'legendary' elvish warlord himself was so frightened by the sight that he fled the scene, leaving what little survivors of his forces were left to their fate.
Limping skeletons -- seeming as soldiers of old -- walked forward at the behest of the mysterious masked men, who were flanked by floating skulls that were draped in green flames. Even the Banshee, though resilient to it, followed their orders.
The soldiers that survived from Nobu's command fought bravely against their odds. One in particular struggled tooth and nail, showing great military prowess. It was from him that our travelers learned the name of their faction: The Crymson Clan. Eventually, even that relentless man caved under the blade of a Morning Clan Ronin, who paid his respects when he struck the finishing blow. Though even a Ronin could only hope to graze such tough armor.
The Morning Clan hurried to unite their ranks, using their superior range to try and outmaneuver the enemy. It was Miyamoto who gave the undead a name: The Mist Clan. A group that was thought to be a myth, but indeed were not.
Their leaders, wielding the Zanbatos once used to execute horses, proved to be a challenge up front, and did not give up without a deadly fight. It was only after they were slain that the stronger undead creatures ran, apparently freed of their servitude. But they did not flee before sinking Miyamoto into unconsciousness, as she had previously used her connection to the Takusan to decimate the skeletons that served her enemies.
Hansuke wasted no time using his skills to bring her back to health.
"My duty to the Morning Clan and its ends will always come first for me. But you can be certain that my debt to you and your own will come second." Oda Miyamoto, at the Clash of Damu.
Meanwhile, Sunny ventured into one of the mist-ridden alleys, seeking a way out of the carnage. He was then attacked by Mist Clan assassin. But Sunny nonetheless tried to reason with him and the assassin was surprisingly accepting about it. He let Sunny proceed and warned him he could do so without worry so long as he did not show himself to be an enemy of his Clan (The Mist Clan).
From the alleyway, a family beckoned Sunny into safety. From them, he learned that the Mist Clan seemed to be kind to commoners and that poorer folk had quite the negative view of the Morning Clan; even going as far as to call them 'fiends'. These folk offered Sunny a path away from the fighting, but he did not wish to leave his friends behind. As they left, Sunny took a small memento; a rag doll of simple design.
The Morning Clan eventually stood victorious on the battlefield, in no small part thanks to our travelers. But they might've had some sort of edge, as the undead seemed indifferent towards Yusuf; almost like he wasn't even there. Though victorious, the Morning Clan was in shambles; their leader was wounded and their forces were depleted. With the flames closing in, our travelers and what remained of the clan moved away from the wreckage, as the mist dissipated from their path.
