Session #12: Prismatic Prison Palace...
General Summary
Okay, so the Fire Elemental was angry. Thankfully, we were able to convince them to leave by giving the being some Ignium and 30G, but that just meant the owner of the bathhouse, Laril, was super angry we didn’t buy their silence as well.
One chase through Sigil later, Doc and I were invited to discuss the terms of the Fire Elemental’s silence. We were brought into a really hot, windowless building, and we struck a deal to either bring them a piece of the staff they’d lost or fork over 350G. Doc and I were totally on board for finding the staff piece...until Clarity and Søren explained they were probably talking about Ruat. Since we had to leave ASAP, we decided to give over the money in exchange for their commitment - the Fire Elemental swore “on the name of the All Consuming Fire,” that their lips were sealed, which seemed to be enough for Laril.
We tried to take a quick nap once we were down in the sewers, but were almost immediately swarmed by these slime monster assassins! Thankfully, we held them off and were able to get a quick rest, as well as avoid tangling with a Jelly, at least for the time being.
It looked like it had been a fair amount of time since the Revolutionary League used the tunnels, so whatever “Cutter” was down there was certainly doing a good job of keeping people away. Clarity was able to distil a vial of acid from one of the creatures, which might come in handy.
We ended up having to fight that Jelly as well, which was no joke. I wonder how many more of them there are down here anyways, and what kind of person would decide to create these creatures, and w-
September 8th,
I found Tinwë’s Journal during my watch. Most of the pages after her latest entry were soaked with acid and blood, so I have done my best to clean it up and ripped a page out of my own journal to add to it. None of us are sure if we can revive her, so it would be nice to maintain some sort of memory of her, even if this is indeed her final chapter.I feel like as a fellow Sensate, she would appreciate it.
It all happened so quickly, and might I say, quite unexpectedly. We came across the culprit of the sewage monsters, who identified himself as Khargaaz. A vile little thing, he seemed to summon creature after creature from the depths of the muck, alst while doing his damndest to escape our wrath. He cast Slow on our entire party (an effective spell I must note for later), and Tinwë tried her best to catch up and break his concentration.
Unfortunately, Søren and myself both fell defeating the many slime monsters that kept appearing - Tinwë was able to bring me up to repair Søren at the sacrifice of her last spell slot, and Khargaaz took the opportunity to spear her through the gut. We all tried to get to her and did manage to defeat the wretched man, but none of us made it in time to save her.
We all went through the motions: Doc tended to the body, Caelen and Søren set up camp, I searched Khargaaz’s body and tried to identify what I found. One of the items was a Token of Mire, which is likely what Rowan tasked me with retrieving and returning. We also found a portal key with abyssal and primordial on it.
It was so silent, the most quiet it’s even been traveling with these people. The only occasional sound was Doc’s crying (I didn’t say anything, I’m not sure if he wanted me to). Søren was determined we’d find someone to reincarnate her, and that was our one motivation as we made the trek back to Sigil, her little body in his arms. We are hoping the Factol of the Cyphers can assist.
I can’t help, but wonder, though: will she want to come back?
Dying sucks.
Clarity was nice enough to save the rest of my journal pages before they got too soaked through with acid, but I’m going to need to insert some more, the next time I get a chance.
Going to the Realm of the Dead was quite an experience though. I don’t know what I expected of Gehenna, but it certainly wasn’t Cyric’s shiny rainbow castle. I wonder if he designed it that way, or if that’s part of his punishment?
Anyway, instead of being brought before Erebos for judgement, I wound up on a beach and had a chat with another Power all together. Cyric looked like an elf my age, but also gave off the vibes of being ancient - must be a Power thing.
He wants to be free from his prison and offered to bring me back to life if I helped him. I asked why he was in there, and he apparently shared some knowledge with mortals that the other Powers were not happy about, hence rainbow prison.
I didn’t know how I could possibly be of assistance to a Power, but Cyric said we were at some sort of “inflection point” and that I had a part to play, whatever that means. But I wasn’t going to be easily fooled this time! I learned my lesson after dealing with that jerk in the Feywild.
I have 30 days to decide whether I will help Cyric...or die. If I die, who knows where I’ll go (even Cyric was unsure about Verdan’s resting place). And even if I am able to be reincarnated, it’s almost guaranteed I will never be welcome in Toril’s Echo again…
I have a lot decide, so I told the party and Retholien as soon as I woke up. Honestly, her reaction was kind of disconcerting for such a self-assured person, and the Factol warned us against telling too many more about my current situation. However, I have to find out as much as I can about Cyric in the time I have left - which means it’s time to research! Sounds like the best place to start is with Rhys: hopefully, the Sensate Factol is able to assist.
I feel bad for derailing everyone’s plans and making them worry, but I’m so grateful I don’t have to go through this all alone.
