Jet Foxes

Also known as an Onyx fox.
Jet Foxes are large constructs carved out of an enchanted form of Jet that gives it's particular resilience. They are used as protectors and combat units upon the walls of the Gate of the Setting Sun.
Through the use of techniques that they preserved during their flight from their homeland, the Yuhi have bestowed greater intelligence upon the Jet Fox statues, even to the point of them being able to cast spells.
There are some that argue, mainly the Nianqi, this boost to intelligence lowers the overall strength of the constructs but this has yet to be tested.
The Fox statues are carved with nine tails, after a particular kind of guardian spirit, with each one being marked with different arcane symbols, effectively acting as a different "spell" that the fox can access.

While the Jet Fox isn't quite as physically strong as Jade Lions, it's magical flexibility more than makes up for it.
