Emperor Marshall D. Turcain

Marshall D. Turcain is the emperor of the Enies Empire. Emperor Turcain was born to a family of poor peasants in Sekiran-owned Impel. His family, unable to feed all of their children, chose to leave him in an alley in the slums of Impel, otherwise known as Impel Down. Turcain did what he had to survive. Abandoned at the age of 9, Turcain had difficulties at first adjusting to his new surroundings. At first, he would chase after rodents and sift through garbage for food. After some time living like this, Turcain had a run in with authorities. He was caught rummaging through garbage and beaten by these authorities for fun. After the beating, Turcain was approached by a young, disheveled man who held out a hand and helped Turcain up. He introduced himself as Rayleigh. Rayleigh picked the young Turcain up off the ground and walked him to a small, worn down shack. There, he treated Turcain and talked to him, telling him stories about his own experiences with the authorities and his run-ins with the government. Rayleigh let Turcain stay with him while he recovered. Upon recovering, Rayleigh took Turcain with him on what he called a job. At this "job", Rayleigh sneaked into the rich part of Impel, where he had Turcain watch him steal wallets from various nobles and merchants without anyone noticing. Upon returning to Impel Down, he promised to teach Turcain how to survive here. For the next few years, Rayleigh took the young Turcain under his wing, teaching him everything he could. After seven years, Rayleigh told Turcain that he had been called on by a good friend, and he had to leave immediately.    Hearing this, Turcain turned to the street. He chose to continue with what Rayleigh started. He began helping those in the slums, teaching them what Rayleigh had taught him. Within a few years, Turcain had his own band of like-minded people, unhappy and unsatisfied with their current situation. Despite the lessons Turcain taught his group, the authorities were able to crack down on them. Every take down these authorities made, Turcain made into an opportunity; an opportunity to rally the troops and radicalize his band. As time went on, Turcain's group grew and radicalized more and more, even spreading to another large city, Ennel. Finally, Turcain's once small group had risen to match the strength of an army. With his new army at his back, Turcain rose up against what he considered to be the tyranny of Sekiran and it's authorities. On the first day of this uprising, Turcain declared himself "Marshall D. Turcain" and took the city of Impel under his rule. From Impel, Turcain marched to Ennel to unite with his followers there, preparing for the coming battle with the Sekiran military.    As predicted, the full force of the Sekiran military marched to Ennel to put down this rebellion. Upon arriving, the Sekiran army set up a camp outside the city, resting up and preparing for the siege the next day, but Turcain predicted this. He had all his forces cross to the south side of the Enies river, where they waited until deep into the night. At the stroke of midnight, Turcain gave the signal and his army crossed the Enies and attacked the Sekiran forces from the south. The Sekiran army never anticipated this, and only had lookouts watching the city itself. Turcain's forces were able to slaughter half of the Sekiran forces before the rest of the army figured out what was happening. Once the Sekiran military awoke they attempted to fight back, but at this point Turcain's forces were too strong, and the Sekiran forces were crushed. This became known as the Battle of Enies. In the aftermath of the battle, Turcain declared himself the Emperor of the new Enies Empire. He sent envoys to each nation on Agutare, including Sekiran, detailing what had transpired at the Battle of Enies, and his declaration of independence from Sekiran. Losing most of its military force in that battle, Sekiran had no choice but to concede that land to Turcain. At 24, Marshall D. Turcain had become the first Emperor of the newly founded Enies Empire. Over the next 10 years, Enies and Sekiran had various border disputes, most leading to Sekiran conceding more and more land.
