Mazalurk

The mazalurk tribes are a grouping of several tribes of lizard folk. These tribes are semi-nomadic, and they plant and cultivate seasonal areas while hunting between those areas. During the winter months they do stay in one place as they do poorly with the cold. These winter holds are built into the earth to preserve their heat. Spring brings the eggs to hatch, and initiates the wandering.   The society is run by the clan leaders who are the most proficient hunters and warriors. They are advised by the shamans of Horeveloze, who wield considerable power over many aspects of the society. They provide the winter heat for the holds through their ritual magics, as well as blessings of power and protection. The head priest is currently Hekvalt the Liberator, and he is far older than most realize. The leaders of the individual clans shift frequently, as can the various clans. Currently there are five clans, though one is large enough that it will likely split in too.   Externally to the plains that are their home, the tribes believe the other races to be inferior and fair game for raiding. They will engage in diplomatic relations, but only if the opposing force is reasonably able to defend itself from incursion.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

They have their own dialect of Shimvit, the language used by Orcs and Goblins. It uses the common AoEim alphabetic system for writing, though it includes some special diacritics for additional glutteral stops unique to their dialect.

Common Dress code

The liazard folk only use clothing as needed, usually to deal with the cold or to have pockets and pouches. Most especially this consists of belts and robes, and typically of leather or rough fabrics. Dyes of wild colors are preferred for ceremonial or high-status clothing, while the typical colors are tans and browns. A green that most other cultures associate with sickly green, is considered an auspicious style.
