Symbolic Clasps
There are many kinds of clasps and they are one of the most popular forms of jewelry regardless of class, race, gender or species. Cloak clasps are very common as cloaks are utilitarian, providing warmth and bedding while traveling. In warm regions there are clasps used as a brooch, or attached just above the hip.
Some clasps are very utilitarian and have multiple small tools attached with chains, known as a chatelaine. Others are designed with magical uses, a very common enchantment is to provide a low level of light in emergencies once per day. Many are designed with symbols or motifs of their religion, family, profession or in some cases secret societies.
The Conservators of the Word and Star have historically used clasps with a seven pointed star atop an engrailed square. It is said that when working covertly they use an alternate symbol, but that is only known to those in the organization. There are enough symbols of organizations, families, professional organizations it is easy to pass these off as an alternative obscure organization.
The Minam Empire's Ministry of Internal Affairs used an official badge of a lions head couped looking right and wreathed with a chain. Differing metals and scrolled mottos designated the classification and rank of the individual. While no longer secret, they used and alternate symbol in covert operations. A brooch of steel silver in the design of a manticore. Differing colored eye gems were used to denote special rank or division. As the old organization is defunct these are often collected now. With many collectors desiring a complete set, and debating as to how many kinds were actually in use. All the high level officers brooches were enchanted with a variety of enchantments which increases their extreme value.
