Town Crier

Many locations employ criers to distribute the news. It is often cheaper than the printing presses, and caters to those already occupied in other tasks.
Within Soramizu there are a great number who pride themselves in entertaining delivery of the days news. Others are employed by businesses to provide a degree of entertaining reading for employees on shift.
Lapismare and Portomare both employ official crier's to provide the news. Some are concerned this is to control the information available to the people, so other independant crier's are often financially supported particularly as a form of rebellion or a strong independent streak.
Within the Matron Mysterium criers have been banned from the public streets. This is due to the prior use of criers to foment dissent and revolution twice in the recent history. So instead news is provided often in public halls, which often charge an entrance fee and include food. The matron herself has funded an important Replication Press for the cheaper publication of periodic news and flyers. A special class of crier is still employed by the government for the announcing of specific events. They are licensed and employed strictly by the Matron.

Tools

A few tools are common with criers. Voice lozenges are a common tool for those who speak loudly on a regular basis. Vocal amplifiers are also commonly used to enhance the range and length of time a crier can call, though at times their use can be punished by certain municipalities if they are excessively loud, or overused.
