Inscribed Strigil

A common bathing instrument, a curved blade used to scrape oils from the body before bathing, specially enhanced with runic inscription to keep physical properties of the individual the strigil is used upon. Though the device's primary purpose is to allow one to store lost properties of their own bodies for later consumption(traditionally kept within glass jars, though any container will suffice), it has become common practice to sell one's stored properties to others. The scraped off oil functions, essentially, in the same way as a strength or stamina potion. Though the practice is frowned on by many, The Lawperson's Guild has declared that while it is weird, that's no reason to make it illegal. A far less common practice is to try to capture another person's physical properties with your own inscribed strigil. The guild, fortunately, has seen reason here and declared the jarring and selling of another individual's essential oils to be unlawful. For those who wish to experience a safe bathing experience with no risk of being robbed, a strigil can be purchased cheaply and inscribed for little more than a few gold, though many say the bathing houses are an experience that can't be missed, if you aren't too paranoid to give them a visit.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The strigil makes use of simple runework to allow the draining of excess strength, stamina, and similar physical properties from oil and sweat, which can then be bottled for later consumption. Though most common-use strigils possess only enough runic inscription to allow the filtering of one physical property, those used around the midsummer games are much more thoroughly inscribed.

While ancient strigils were made of bronze, most these days are made with iron. The most potent strigils are made with silver, as it takes runic empowerment better than any other metal.
