Quakes of Kragmarr
General Summary
Earthquakes under Kragmarr mine cause a collapse. Most of the miners manage to escape, but when they count heads, they find the manager's son, Norbin, is still trapped somewhere inside. Fortunately, three adventurers happened to be passing through town, and were willing to brave the mine's dangers to rescue him and the other miners, too!
After taking in some basic info, the trio worked with the miners to clear an entrance to the mine. The dwarves warned them that the collapse had likely wakened some nasty beasts, and the party prepared for danger. They also recruited Pwent, one of the mining supervisors, who was no fighter but agreed to help extract the trapped miners.
The party's druid was easily able to summon thorny vines and growths to help them navigate the newly re-arranged mineshafts, and between the paladin's daggers and the ranger's swords, the rats and other pests proved simple. They rescued some injured dwarves by lifting free the rocks that pinned them, experimented with some bizarre fungi, and eventually found the source of all the trouble.
An earth elemental, rampaging and missing an eye, stormed around the bottom of a sinkhole. His quarry, the young and terrified Norbin, huddled on a ledge, desperately signing for help.
Morgren specialized in colossus-slaying, and leapt into the fray, with his companions close behind. Together, they beat it back into the stone. It left its remaining emerald eye behind, and Norbin scrambled down, guiltily offering the emerald that caused the whole mess in gratitude. The "paladin" was oddly happy to accept, and scooped the second gem out of the ranger's hands before fleeing.
The rogue laughed as he dextrously climbed out of the mine, exclaiming that he coudln't believe the others thought he was really a holy warrior. Morgren and Faendal kicked themselves, but counted their adventure a success nevertheless. They escorted Norbin and the injured Dwarves outside, where their grateful families awaited.
