Waterdeep

To the west, you see the coast and shoreline of the Sea of Swords. Amongst this coast and shoreline is a deep harbor, animated and hustling with activity. Ships of all sizes and designs, come & go. Some transporting goods, others transporting individuals. To the east, the Great Mountain and the southwestern most edges of the Sword Mountains.
Comprised of a series of wards, from Castle Ward and Dock Ward, to the Field Ward, Sea Ward and Trades Ward, to even the City of the Dead and Undercliff. While unknown in significance to outsiders, each ward has significance to the Waterdhavians. They give the city structure and meaning, generalizing the activities and such known to occupy such locale.
A storied city, housing a world renowned navy and the famous Griffon Cavalry. The city has seen everything from near ruin, with God's rampaging thru the street, to unbridled prosperity. Regardless of the thick and thin of the city, two things have always been a cornerstone: The Yawning Portal; a “must visit” by any purported adventurer and the infamous Xanathar Thieves Guild. Both have called this home for centuries.
An era of stability has fallen upon the city. With Dagult Neverember deposed and a chaotic past behind them, Lady Laeral Silverhand, once thought dead, has returned and rallied the lords to support her and supplant Dagult Neverember. She has returned house titles to those who sold them off during previous ruin and reasserted rules and law from a century ago, when she last resided here. These rules and law previously brought with them peace & prosperity once before, and it looks as though they will do so once again.
With any government, there are always questions; and as such, two questions remain regarding Lady Silverhand: what happened to her children and late husband, Blackstaff, Khelben Arunsun? And what is her relationship with the current Blackstaff, Vajra Safahr? Inquiring at all regarding the first will bring a sharp end to any discussion with the Lady. As for the second...the most anyone can say is that Lady Silverhand and Blackstaff Safahr are cordial to each other. Outside of that, no one has dared to inquire. If the Lady is that incensed by inquires to her lost love, only the God's know what her response would be to someone inquiring about pure speculative rumor.
What lies before you stands a city; a pinnacle of what a Great City might be. Wealth, Influence, Stability...Here, citizens work, nobles sneer, and great masked lords plot and scheme, all while merchants dance between to collect their coin.
