Official Messenger Of The Emperor
The official messenger of the emperor takes the word of his superior to faraway lands that know them as the face of their empire, and take their will as the will of their home. This gives the messenger great power over the political climate, import, and export of the empire that they shouldn't use against the emperor's orders. But so far from the palace, who'll notice?
Career
Qualifications
There are no official requirements to become the messenger, but usually the emperor chooses a person with power and riches. This is more often than not also the official interpreter and translator of the emperor, sometimes even a senator. The reasons behind these decisions are very clear: a great knowledge of languages to communicate with the other kingdoms and an untwisted loyalty to the emperor.
Payment & Reimbursement
This profession alone does grant you enough to survive, which is no problem since the messenger almost always comes of the high class and has a few high-paying jobs alongside it.
Other Benefits
Since the job relies on talking and not just the written word they can manipulate the emperor's orders however they want to, so they get great power over the oversea politics, import, export, and even official allies of the empire. In the palace it might mean nothing, but for a state that is heavily dependent on external forces this is of the utmost importance.
Perception
Purpose
The purpose is to maintain good relationships with outside countries, but without the emperor having to visit every place personally and so leaving the palace alone to the senators.
Social Status
It is thought of as a job for either the power-hungry or the very intelligent, maybe even both. Since this profession is only practiced by one person, they are usually seen as lone wolves whom you should leave alone because they tend to bite if you come too close.
Demographics
There is only one at a time, but there are many smaller messengers who work for the palace and earn this way a decent lifestyle in court.
Operations
Workplace
Every messenger has an office they barely use and a ship, which they spend their time mostly on. The current messenger, Max Laitas, has his office in the attic of the palace which is known for the smell of paper and ink, staples of books and even a place to sleep. His ship is pretty big since he takes his wife, Shaja Dara, and son, Seva Dara with him.
Dangers & Hazards
The opposing kingdoms have to be visited too, and most of the time a messenger dies this way: in a dark corner of an enemy's palace. Usually there are also some dangers for their health, regarding epidemics and such,he since this does not stop their work.
