An abomination of years gone by

The Láspi Contritum are a horrific abomination of a species supposedly responsible for the destruction of the Nayuran people and their homeworld. Their bodies are comprised of a horrible black sludge which allows them to shift into any shape and merge together, while also incorporating materials they absorb as they move. Their shapeshifting abilities combined with their ability to split and grow just by absorbing materials they pass over makes them incredibly dangerous to all life, they seem resistant to most weapons making it near impossible to get rid of them without assistance from a more powerful source.

One of the very few counters to them is the "magic" used by the Nayuran, unfortunately, they were overwhelmed by the Láspi Contritum long ago, resulting in the complete obliteration of their world and the near-complete destruction of their species. The Last Nayurans are a group consisting of the last few Nayurans, after escaping annihilation, they were able to seal the Láspi Contritum away and have continued to do so for millennia. In more recent times, there have been breaches in this containment, small parts of the Láspi Contritum escaping and causing danger to the newer worlds. The Retaliation has taken to granting their abilities to residents of the worlds in the form of empowered weapons that act as conduits for the granter's power. These so-called Champions are selected based on key attributes valued by each Nayuran and are recruited to aid in the fight against the Láspi Contritum.

The Dark Wave is a corrosive black ooze of unknown origin that was responsible for wiping out the homeworld of the Nayurans and all but a handful of their population. It decays most things it can envelop, while incorporating anything resistant to

Dietary Needs and Habits

It is not known if they have any need to eat, however, they will absorb anything they can entirely engulf. As they absorb more and more matter, they will grow, generating more of the horrible ooze that makes up their bodies. When large enough, they can split apart, often used to allow them to cover more ground and grow exponentially but also as a toxic projectile weapon against lifeforms that get in their way.

Average Intelligence

They don't seem to have an active consciousness or intelligence, however, they will occasionally take on more intelligent temporary forms when they are met by adversity. Even in these more intelligent forms, they still seem very limited, still relying on aggression over tactical combat.
