Waal cream
Waal cream is a thick milk-like liquid that drips from glands on the underside of waals. It is highly dense in nutrients and sugar and is occasionally drank by Sky Folk. It is considered somewhat of a luxury.
Properties
Material Characteristics
It is a thick liquid, comparable to yogurt, with a yellowish creamy colour. When stored well it has a smooth consistency, though will become lumpy if not stored well.
History & Usage
History
Waal cream has been known of for a long time, though was not considered as particuarly notable for much of that.
Interest in it rose after people realised that it was both edible and tasty, but remained an incredibly rare luxury even after that due to the fact that there was no way to actively gather it, only being avalible if it happened to land on an island.
In more recent history, as more controlled flight was attained, people found ways to gather it directly from waals safely and without harming the waal by flying beneath it.
Discovery
Waal cream has been known about since before it's oldest known record, being visible dropping from the underside of waals.
When it was first discovered to be a suitable is unknown, however mentions of it appear in the north western regions of the Sky where a considerable quantity dropped into an island's water pool approximately 425 years ago. Supposedly, most of the locals avoided it but one curious individual decided to try it and was pleased with the taste.
There are no records of it being eaten again until approximately 30 years later when it is listed in another island's records as a luxury resource in the island's storehouse. This was also the first instance of the name "waal cream" being used.
Hazards
While perfectly safe to eat, improper storage does risk it going off or causing food poisoning. To avoid this, it is usually stored in an airtight pot and kept somewhere cool. Freezing is also a good option if you have the ability to do so.
There is also an occasional risk of it landing on people if a waal floats over an island. Generally, it considered a good idea to stay indoors, or at least alert, when one passes by.
Distribution
Storage
To keep it fresh, it should be kept in an airtight container. Usually, this is a large clay pot with a seal over the top. It can also be frozen, though the fat in it may seperate and need to be mixed back together being eaten.
