Kingdom's End Chapter 12 Dark Meetings Report

General Summary

The Warband’s exchange was equality eventful as someone in the city attempted to take Ivar’s life with a poisoned arrow in the middle of the exchange, but he was saved by Astrid who took the arrow instead and narrowly survived. Aldwyn was able to fight and kill the attacker but bore the mark of an obscure priesthood from the West Saxon Kingdoms. Huw noted that many of them serve King Alfred as spies and that the attack was likely ordered by him. The Warband took the Sword of Beric and returned victorious from their quest but knowing Ivar would soon seek them out. They could not flee by sea or by land without his men noticing and ask they spoke with Alvis and realized that the King would likely be forced to hand them over to Ivar in the coming days. They also found out that there was an Irish priest who was following the sword around named Brother Brodrick. He warned that the sword was not lost but secreted away as it only seemed to bring conflict to Mercia. He urged the warband not to return it to their patron but instead take it back to Ireland. Luckily, Andhere in his haste to get the sword back to his benefactor found someone who could smuggle people out of the city. Unfortunately, he attempted to betray them to Ivar with a bunch of drunk men to assist him only to die for his treachery at the hands of a well prepared Warband.
