Kingdom's End Chapter 13 Underground and Overland Report

General Summary

The meeting and firefight done, the Warband was able to find that their smuggler knew of an Arix in the city that allowed one to leave. The Warband figured out the key and opened the magical portal going inside. An underground crypt was on the other side of the portal with various traps and monstrosities locked away. The Warband opted not to confront them and instead outwitted the stone guardians that they found, tricking them into providing and accepting a new passphrase now that their former owner was dead. They found the other side of the portal and escaped from the city, emerging a few miles away. The began their journey south, heading to take Pip home to Lincolin and hoping that less direct route would confuse their followers. They kept from the road for a few days and instead went through the woods to avoid entanglements. It was a quiet time with no struggle, but their progress was slow. They decided to return to the Roman road and ran into some travelers that told them of a nearby Minster that might be able to sell them food. When the arrived at the Minster they found that it had been taken over by Frisian pirates who were robbing the Danes of the food and ale from the Minster. Andhere wanted to fight them and free the priests laboring for them but was convinced by cooler heads to let the Frisians go. The Warband finally made it to the Burh of Lincolin, Danish owned but Felberta had old friends there. The Warband took her to those friends and found out quickly that they had been already contacted by the Mercian King anticipating her arrival and asked to betray her. After some convincing they agreed to hide her and not provide her back to the King, but the Warband was now aware what enemy they faced; the King of Mercia was likely behind the attempt on her life.
