Wryley
Wryley is a small hamlet in northern Mercia that has recently come under the ownership of Thegn Aesc as a land grant for service rendered and his oath. The land was previously administered by King Ceowulf, but seems to have rarely been governed directly as the land is close to the border with Northumbria. Wryley is a small, but intrigal part of the local area and the central administration point for the lands gifted to Aesc.
The village has a small dock for vessels to bring infrequent trade off of a connection to the Trent river, a mead hall for the Lord to host events and for the people to gather, and a well appointed minster. The village is focused primarily on agriculture and the harvesting of lumber from the ample forests in the surrounding area.
The hamlet is administered by Reeve Cordell, a Reeve originally assigned by the old King to maintain the land who has been turned over to Aesc to help him find his footing.
The minster in town, Wryleyminster, is run by an Abbot named Cynemaer a distant cousin to the King and brother of Ealdorman Presley. The Minster was recently recommissioned and rebuilt only three years ago at great cost to the hamlet and surrounding areas. The minster has not yet gained a large following with only twelve monks working the property at Cynemaer's disposal, but he has worked to establish a noted horse rearing buisness within the minster walls. Few believe that Cynemaer is a truly pious man and instead believe that he simply profits from the position and that he used that position to force the Reeve to provide the funds necessary for the building.
