Jean le Vasseur

Jean le Vasseur along with an Expedition of French Huguenots arrived on the Isle of Tortuga around 1639-1640 Recapturing it from the English and Spanish and soon establishing a fortification known as Fort de Rocher to protect the harbor in the name of the king of France.   Jean le Vasseur had other Ideals soon after the Completion of Fort De Rocher he was appointed Governor, and he began to offer protection to French, English, and even some Spanish Pirates for a nominal take on their Cargo and prizes. This Established Jean le Vasseur as one of the heads and key movers and shakers in the independent Frech Indies.
