Soft Object

~800 years ago, when the light swarms discover the Great Southern Island

A light swarm has made an important find. It was making a preliminary expedition onto a large piece of solid ground on the world of light, much larger than the border sections. The place is populated by stable animals that support themselves on a circular base, the way individual parts do. The swarm was on the point of returning when a sudden activity in the upper part of one of these animals caught its attention. Something small moved down from the top of the animal. It didn't go all the way down to the solid part, but stopped and released something that was attached to it. The moving object then returned to the upper part of the animal.   Although approaching the limit of its time in the light, three mobile pairs risked investigating the thing that dropped. It was soft to the touch, covered with a substance similar to the feel of our rock animals when they're in the atmosphere. They brought it back to the rest of the swarm and took it to a border section to study it further.   The swarm's final report is its belief that it is an animal, based on the way it moved, but that it is either dead or dormant. Since it has not moved at all since it was found, we suspect it is dead. We'll have the light swarms observe the area to look for more signs of these soft animals.
