Cleansing the Mine

General Summary

The Deadpoint Drift | Vol 6 Issue 1

From the Desk of Jill Cannirunnipelt

"This gang loves fishing for trouble."

Skamos Ea's words are a succinct summary of the wonders and horrors unearthed by our enterprising crew at the Nameless Foxspint Mine. Fresh from a bittersweet holiday and undeterred by the dangers of the north, Deadpoint Adventurers once again braved the distant and desolate chambers of the partially flooded structure.

Last time a party embarked this way, there were some mild hostilities in the form of a fish man (later reported to be a wandering Merrrow) and some easily dispatched zombies. On this trip, sinister forces, no doubt roused by the earlier foray, lay in wait. Several smaller fish-humanoids were posted at the mine's entrance. A pair were defeated and third escaped inward to warn its masters. They'd even concealed a pressure plate trap which was thankfully avoided.

Inside, a wailing sound was heard. The explorers soon discovered a terrifying lone figure. The descriptions provided to The Drift were vague and haunting, and it seemed wise to keep it that way for the collective sanity of reporter, reportee and reader alike. There was a skirmish, in which many were injured but all survived, including the adversary. It was a sea hag, and gave the Adventurers clues and intelligence regarding a full coven of like beings residing deeper in the mine. Through the destruction of a seer's amulet (dropped by the initial guards), the coven was mightily reduced in strength and thus defeated with relative ease.

Later, in what seemed to be controversial point, the original hag was executed by Zoligg with a projectile to the head. Zoligg and Karick Stahland were adamant on this being the correct course of action, with the latter going as far as to say, "I'm worried we may have hag sympathizers on Deadpoint."

Said hags had hoarded many items of value, and the party recovered most of them. But the heist was almost beset with disaster on the way out, when the group disturbed a pair of giant constrictor snakes. Luckily, Deadpoint newcomer Vinnigan stepped up and unveiled their barbarian roots, allegedly tearing off the heads of the beasts and drinking their blood! Skamos in particular described the battle as mindblowing, epic, awe inspiring, and the like.

While the immediate threat of spellcasters and large snakes appears to be nullified, there are still dark mysteries alive in this place, most notably in the descending shaft that invariably leads to the ancient industrious levels of the mine. This area was flooded and blocked by eerie red coral. Perhaps an adventure for another day.

CEE Vote results are in

In an overwhelming decision from adventurers and townsfolk alike, the CEE will immediately begin upgrades and improvements to Deadpoint's critical and long-serving docks. They will be reinforced and expanded to add berthing capacity for four additional small craft and one additional large craft. When finished, we will be at approximately three fifths operational potential as Port Tessalad—daresay eligible for a direct shipping route from the western ports along Iskiss' south shores.
