The Bri'gar is a large almost squid-like creature, with an enormous and somewhat flat body and pinkish skin. Several long tentacles, nearing six feet long, stretch out from its body, these tentacles are semi-hollow but are incredibly muscular and can carry the full weight of the Bri'gar enabling it to stand for short stretches of time. These tentacles also carry tubular hooks that can penetrate and burrow their way into all but the toughest material. A chemical residing within its body has the ability to neutralize many poisons and toxins commonly found on irradiated or poisoned landscapes. Further, its body has a recycling organ that can take former toxins and reform them into a nutrient liquid that assists with replacing lost nutrients within formerly toxic soil.
These functions are highly sought after by various wealthy businesses and MegaCorpos. The Bri'gar when taken from its home sector for use elsewhere cannot survive naturally and must be modified in order to survive. This is because it breathes a formulation of helium and hydrogen-rich air that allows it to function healthily. This composition is nearly unheard of anywhere else in the Delta Space.
As such, when found off its homeworld, it is always in a specially designed exo-suit. This suit pumps a chemical compound into its system allowing it to function as it normally would. Though the suit causes great discomfort for the creature as it does not protect the creature's exposed tentacles from whatever non-native and often highly toxic environment it has been placed in.
This exo-suit also pumps the Bri'gar full of a secondary compound that makes it fully complacent and activates its natural detoxifying habits. Extensively forcing it to automatically detoxify whatever land it is placed on. This forced exertion often tires out the Bri'gar so much that it will fall in exhaustion, often injuring itself in the process.
The exo-suit is often designed with a shelled golden exterior, giving the usually squid-like creature a more beetle-like appearance. Granting the Bri'gar several somewhat inaccurate nicknames including the Golden Bri'gar or Detox Beetles.
Several types of MegaCorpo's utilize the Bri'gar for their own purposes, most commonly companies that specialize in agriculture, real estate, and land reformation. These companies greatly benefit from the use of the Bri'gar's abilities as they are quick and efficient at what would normally be a very lengthy process. Some toxins they can purge have no other cure currently, and can only be purged by their use.
The capture, transportation, and outfitting of the Bri'gar is exceedingly expensive however, and only the richest and most powerful of companies can afford to use the Bri'gar in this manner. Because of this, the Bri'gar has become a somewhat cruel and twisted symbol of the powerful, as they are only attainable by those that can afford their hunting and use.
The use of these generally peaceful creatures to purify land is widely viewed as cruel, as they are taken and exposed to dangerous environments without their consent. But the hyper-rich MegaCorpos that frequently source these creatures for their own use care little for permission or for the well-being of the animal. Ownership and use of this creature, while cruel, is often viewed as a sign of wealth and power as they are costly and difficult to attain.
