Description and Use Case
The Heartrace Security Vest is a wearable piece of technology that acts both as a medical monitoring device and an emergency response defence mechanism.
Developed by Heartrace Medical Defence, the vest is comprised of a retractable polymer specialized by Heartrace. Under normal circumstances, the vest looks like a simple thick black sleeveless shirt with a turtleneck. Though several designs exist that vary this.
On the top of the vest's chest is a small readout that shows various medical information, including the wearer's heart rate, oxygen levels, and anxiety levels.
The vest has highly tuned sensors sensitive enough to detect when the body is in distress.
If the wearer becomes distressed, the vest will fully deploy, covering the wearer's entire torso, arms, neck, and waistline.
In this form, the vest becomes much more like armour, making it bulletproof and fire-resistant.
It is designed to protect vital organs from damage but is still susceptible to explosives and heavy artillery.
The Heartrace Security Vest is primarily used by soldiers, militia, or anyone likely to come under fire.
The vest is not publicly available, and its sale is prohibited and done only under the table. Although it is not illegal to own one, non-military owners may find themselves questioned about how they acquired it.
Heartrace Medical Defense typically only works under contract, sending out bulk orders to military and defence forces.

Their largest client is currently WhiteStar Militech, which owns a share of the company and frequently orders the Heartrace Security Vest and other important medical instruments from them.
Defective Batch
Recently, a batch of defective Heartrace Security Vests entered the black market. Heartrace Medical Defence have released a statement saying that the vests were never meant to go on sale, and we slated for destruction.
However, before that could happen that particular facility had a break-in and several crates of the vests were stolen, including the defective ones. Heartrace Medical Defence has warned that wearing these defective vests could result in severe bodily harm caused by unnecessary or forced deployment.
Explaining that the defect lies in the sensors and deployment mechanisms of the vests, in which they interpret the user as being in distress even when they are not and then deploy the vest much more violently than normal.
The deployment will normally be uncomfortable and jarring but it is not dangerous. Normally, the deployment has a slight constricting feeling as the vest expands across the body. With the defecting deployment mechanism, the vest contracts far too tightly and may even cause muscle damage, cracked and/or broken bones, and in severe cases, compressing organs which then burst under the pressure.
Many believe that these defective vests were intentionally let into the market by Heartrace Security Vest in order to dissuade the illegal selling of their products. However, no hard evidence has been found to prove these claims.
