Origins and Modern Disdain
The King's Colonies Day is a Ka'yar Colonial Governance tradition, a day in which its king, King Ta'liote Myridos XIV and his ancestors are celebrated for their efforts in unifying the multitude of civilizations and peoples under their rule today.
It has been a tradition held ever since the earliest days of conquest and colonization thousands of years ago when the first king of the expanded Ka'yar empire had taken his planetary boundaries and expanded them into space for the first time. It is held each Ka'yar calendar year upon the halfway point of Ka'yar homeworlds rotation around its solar systems sun, as that is the widely believed date of the first king's ascension from his homeworld to the Ka'yar's first off-world colony.
It has become a controversial and often frowned upon, day of celebration though in modern times. As it has become to symbolize the forced servitude of people that had no say in the matter of whether they joined the Colonial Governance or not.
It is especially unpopular amongst the Representative Democracy of Liberation, which splintered from its former monarchy four decades ago and is still at war with its former king. These people view this "day of celebration" as an insult to the people that were forced into serving the Ka'yar king as one of the empire's many forcibly established colonies.

Current Day Celebrations
The execution of this day widely differs between the Ka'yar Colonial Governance and its rival sister state the Representative Democracy of Liberation. In the former, it is a mandatory holiday for all planets within the Ka'yar Colonial Governance, one in which all must take a pause from their daily work and celebrate in the name of their king. Further, their daily stipend is donated to the king's coffers as a gesture of thanks towards the throne and its kindness for bringing them into their empire's safety.
This has become a greatly reviled part of the King's Colonies Day, as it takes away funds that are sorely needed by citizens who struggle to get by as food and necessities become scarce and expensive during the ongoing civil war. And to make matters worse, it is clear that the collected funds are being siphoned into the Ka'yar Colonial Governances military funds.
On the other hand, in the Representative Democracy of Liberation, it is a much despised day, one that only represents the cruel frustrations associated with the governances former king. This a reminder of why they split from the traditionalists and the throne, and of the lingering servitude that their kin living under the rule of the traditionalist Ka'yar Colonial Governance are forced to adhere to.
It has become a tradition for the Representative Democracy of Liberation to plan a heavy offensive each and every King's Colonies Day, so as to distract and annoy the king during his day of celebration. And while these offensives are known to occur each year, the Representative Democracy of Liberation still revels in the ruining of their former king's day of revelry.
