The Burning of the Garden

And god admonished man for his insolence, and resolved to punish him.   But what would be a sufficient punishment for the dissapointment we has wrought, she wondered? Then, it came to her.   The only thing that would learn man it's lesson would be the loss of their promised reward for all eternity.
-Pyroclast sermon

There are many interpretations of God in this world, formed and changed over the lifespan of civilization. Some kinder, some not. But few have ever been more cruel than the god that the Pyroclasts paint with ash.   To them, the fact that humanity wasn't worthy of the Promised Garden when god judged them the first time is a black mark that has not gone away, nor will it ever. In their belief, rare as it is, when God saw that humans had not lived up to her expectations and she resolved that we could not receive our reward, she also resolved that we would never be worthy of it.   She saw us carving up the world into petty kingdoms, and carving towards the heart of the world, and fighting each other to the death over anything at all, paired with all the other things she had told us not to do and realized that we would never stop ourselves.     Thus she had no use for the Garden any longer.   With the garden put to the flame, the Pyroclasts are of the opinion that God still watches over us, but not for our protection. She instead watches us with the same dispassion with which one observes a campfire burning down to the dregs for stray embers so as to save the forest from rogue fires. Eventually there will be nothing left, and God will create another world with a more worthy inhabitant.
The Pyroclasts, unfortunately, gained many members during the height of the Great War as the destruction and loss grew ever greater. Their numbers have shrunk since then, but the sheer amount in comparison to other religious groups means that they remain a notable section of the faithful.
