Tuatha Dé Danann (Thoo-a day Du-non)

Captured Protectors of Nature

Magical Abilities

Nature Elemental

The Tuatha Dé Danann, or Tuatha Dé, are a race of magical beings, specializing in Nature magic, specifically plants and fungi

Companions of Animals

In addition to plant and fungi magic, some Tuatha Dé Danann can talk to, command and ‘inhabit’ (see through the eyes of) certain types of primitive animals.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Appearance wise, the Tuatha Dé Danann are not too different from Humans, however they do have longer, claw-like fingers, wood-like growths on their bodies, and longer, pointier ears.

Genetics and Reproduction

Biological Sex

Unlike Humans, and most other species for that matter, the Tuatha Dé do not have different sexes, and are instead hermaprodites. They possess cloaca which house both ‘female’ and ‘male’ parts.

Mating Ritual

After choosing a mate that she finds suitable, two Tuatha Dé will fight to determine which one will bear the children in the relationship, the winner being the mother.

Growth Rate & Stages

Child to Adult

Tuatha Dé reach sexual maturity incredibly quickly, only being children for a very short amount of their lifespan, at around 1000 years. This would be roughly equivalent to a Human becoming an adult at 4 years of age.
However, many individuals will not actually have sex for long periods of their life.

Girls

The first time an individual gives birth she will develop mammary glands, which she will keep for the rest of her life. These individuals are referred to as ‘Girls’ (translated from a word meaning “Child Bearer” or “Den Mother”).

Ecology and Habitats

They typically like to live in forests or meadows. They prefer warm climates, but are perfectly suitable for colder ones as well.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They will typically eat fruits, bark and leaves but can also eat meat, which they consider delicacies.

Berries and leaves

A typical meal.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They are led by a Queen (or sometimes Queens) called The Morrígan or sometimes a Regent called The Dagda if the future Morrígan is too young.
They live in immediate family groups which spilt off if they find a mate.

Plant Senses

Tuatha Dé Danann can also sense whatever any plants in an approximately 1 kilometre radius can perceive, giving them a much farther range of perception.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They frequently form commensalist (or mutualist if you count the joy the feel from their presence as ‘benefiting from’) various plant and fungus species.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Tuatha Dé, like Humans, have two parts to their names. There is no particular rhyme or reason for the first part, but the second part consists of two parts. The second half is shared with all members of the family, but it is the first half that holds the true significance: an important trait or skill she possesses.

Beauty Ideals

They tend to like long hair and dark eyes. They typically think the prettiest hair colour is blonde. Since most do not have much muscle, the more muscular ones are seen as very beautiful.

Relationship Ideals

They have only one mate which they will procreate with, but are allowed to be in a relationship with multiple people, and many are. Everyone in the relationship is expected to be close, but especially the mates with each other.
They see no problem with being affectionate in public.
