Biolons

The Biolons are a highly variable species originating in the Stained Worlds Sector. They have actively engaged in extensive genetic modificaton to allow them to adapt to a wide variety of habitats on many worlds.   The image at the head of the article shows two Biolons feeding in the marshes of Tan Raldack, a small steamy jungle world orbiting a G type star about sixty light years from Earth in the direction of the centre of the galaxy.   Tan Raldack was the location of the final Friendship Mission in 2075 AF.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Whilst they have split their species into a number of self consciously engineered forms to suit the biospheres they choose to live in, most morphologies of the Biolons resemble two legged upright herbiverous sauropods.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

The Biolons make a point of never wearing closing in normal social situations because they claim that they are so well engineered for the environments they live in that they do not need it. To wear clothing would be to admit to maladaptation. They do, of course, don protective suiting when needed to shield them from high energies or vaccuum conditions encountered in space travel.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Biolons like to minimise the use of technology in their everyday life but behind the scenes they command sophisticated systems which help them to maintain the rural idyls they like to create on their colony worlds.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Biolons are known as the Wardens of the Stained Worlds within the Galactic Compact. This title acknowledges their relative importance, paticularly in the sector where they originated. It was the Biolons who authorised Helix Transit Nebula Agreement in 2087 AF, allowing humanity to access many more worlds than had been permitted under the rules of the Friendship Missions. This would ultimately be one important strand in the story of the Emptying of Earth.
Lifespan
From 50 to 150 years depending on subspecies.
Average Height
Too variable between races to give a meaningful single figure, The smallest subspecies average 2 metres and whilst the largest on low gravity worlds are more than 20 metres tall.
