Crossing Over

The silver chime of the breakfast bell had just started to call faintly on the warm morning air when Yvessu and Ataska reached the edge of the Triwellen estate, marked by a widely spaced ring of stones set into the soft sward. Ataska was silent now but his unhappiness was obvious. He bent down from the saddle and favoured her with a sombre little kiss.   "You know that I must not enter the woods but I do have a guide for you," he said, reaching into the inner lining of his coat and releasing the squirming black form of the kitchen cat.   "I have spoken with MoonEyes and she will lead you to the tower."   "But I thought..."   "The prohibition does not apply to members of her race," he said with a smile.   "Cats have an understanding with both sides of the treaty and MoonEyes is sympathetic to your cause. Go swiftly and remember, whatever you do, you must be back inside these stones before the sun sets. Yvessu wasted no more time. Gathering the silver belt tightly round her waist she stepped over the border where the beautifully manicured parkland of Triwellen deteriorated into the wild woodland. MoonEyes padded swiftly after her.

Author's Notes

This is a very early image rendered in Bryce 4 when my hardware, software and 3D skills were relatively limited. I was still learning how to link figures from Poser into Bryce scenes and pushed that technique here. Although there are only two low resolution human figures and two animal ones, once the clothing is considered and a few native resources such as rocks and trees were added, this was quite a resource intensive scene for its time, as simple and primitive as it may seem now.
