Dragonspiders

Dragonspiders are a gigantic predatory arachnid species, somewhat resembling a cross between a spider and a dragonfly, with the traditional eight legged body plan of a spider, coupled with the long diaphanous wings of a dragonfly. They make webs and have a unique hunting strategy which involves the aerial discharge of sticky threads from a swarm, immobilising their prey which they can later bind and consume at their leisure. Fully grown dragonspiders can be up to a meter in length and they represent a threat even to humans if they are caught out in the open and unprepared when a swarm attacks.
Dragonspiders spread onto Punjuki and the southern parts of Myruthea from the Dark Domains during the Age of Shadows in the fifth millenium APC. Thanks to the efforts of the Loyalist Thaumatic Army Council and then later, the Third Popular Ascendancy, they have largely been exterminated outside the Dark Domains but they are not extinct and there are occasional reports of rogue swarms in Punjuki, even today.
