Oriel Hambert is James Hambert's youngest daughter. Her older sister is Katia Tolson.
When the story of A Gift From The Sea : Characters opens, she is attempting to make a claim on the affections of Michael Jadrick which is partially reciprocated, and might have resulted in a definite commitment were it not for the arrival of the rider girl Issa Gloth with whom Oriel now finds herself in competition. Oriel is not without other suitors, however, specifically Martin Binwold.
