Sanguine Sister
The title of Sanguine Sister is a secret honorific bestowed to those Blood Iris Sisters who have shown a particular aptitude for the extraction of mortal blood from human males. This process is usually associated with the seduction of more or less willing men who involuntarily donate the vital red fluid which the Blood Iris Sisters need for some of their more important magic.
Teeth in the sister's mouths but also in their stems (pseudo arms and legs), bite into their victims and drain blood, often at the height of passion. It is unusual (although not unknown) for the man to die from the bleeding. But survivors have whispered afterwards that the ecstacy they achieved in coupling was worth the price they paid in blood.
Amaress, shown at the head of the article is reputed to be the most successful of the living Sanguine Sisters.
Notable Holders
The Sanguine Sister who went by the name of Alhamona is the best known holder of the role, kept alive in the popular imagination in Kromin Junovere's Fables of Myruthea (2864 APC), which tells the story of her complex and intimate relations with Major Thomas Frandham during the building of the Old Pale Empire Road.
Another name which has gone down in history is that of Esteranna, who perfomed the duties of a Sanguine Sister at Kern near the beginning of the Time of Terrors and according to the Diary of Clarise Vabatan, provided the infamous mage with inspiration for her own existing research into blood magic.
