The Dance of the Silver Tide

The Dance of the Silver Tide is the most important of many fey festivals and gatherings. Its purpose is to provide a great formal expression of all the cognate emotions allied with the eternal expression of immortal love and desire. Whilst there is certainly a lot of dancing involved, much more happens on these occasions. They are an opportunity for the staging of cruel personal dramas, declarations of undying loyalty, the flaunting of betrayals, the pursuit of seductions and the public scorning of disguarded lovers. In one fevered night, as it swirls back and forth around the woods, the Dance of the Silver Tide, combines everything which in human societies might come from courtship, engagement, marriage, divorce and all the messy things in between and stages them openly for the pleasure of the wild dancers who enjoy them in their moment then pass swiftly on to the next and the next and the next....

Observance

The Dance takes place only in years when the full moon rises on the night of the summer solstice, which is roughly every thirty years and it is a moveable feast in the most literal sense, rotating from location to location within the Great Circle Woods, now deisul and now widdeshins according to rules of ecstatic empathy which are laid down by Queen Mab.
