Her lair was attacked by a rival red dragon. She tried to defend her turf, but he was older and stronger than she was. It left her for dead after killing her two wyrmlings and claiming her hoard for himself.
As she lay there dying, a harvester devil named Lucia appeared and offered her a deal; her soul for revenge. Believing she was done for she signed the contract using her own blood.
She did not count on surviving her injuries, but she did. She packed up what little left she had and left her lair and assuming the form of a wizened elderly elf she started working for the The Church of Mystra as their librarian and lore keeper.
Not too long after she settled in to her routine, Lucia came back with the head of the red to prove that they had upheld their end of the bargain. The devil also pressed her to uphold her side. She professed confusion, as she thought her end would be collected upon her death. Lucia quickly corrected that notion, producing the contract the devil informed her that she had unknowingly put the souls of her brood up as collateral against a future dead to be named. Her wyrmlings' souls were now being "boarded" in Bator, until she performed her portion of the contract. Lucia explained that they now had a task that she needed to do for them; to kill the Elran, head priest of Ilmater and destroy their storehouse inside The Hospice of St. Laupsenn. Lucia gave her a timeline of one month to complete this, but if she needed more time she could get another month extension by killing an innocent and dedicating the kill to Asmodeus.
She has done this twice.
