Hesoi

The Hesoi are a diminuitive species of lizard-like beings from a tropical planet. Shrewd with money and excellent diplomats, the Hesoi have quickly positioned themselves as the economical powerhouses of the galaxy. With the Galactic Central Exchange within their home planet of Shisoi, the Hesoi are the largest players of the Credit market.
The natural social dynamics of the Hesoi are complicated at best and labyrinthine at worst. With pheremone sacs located near their throats that react to their emotions and body stress, their sense of smell is integral to their dealings. As children, the merchants of their species (which is to say, nearly all of them) learn to control their emotions to a startling degree, lest they tip their hand unknowingly through their scent. This control makes them extremely difficult to read by other species and creates a cultural gap that can be difficult to bridge for the Hesoi themselves.
While other species create perfumes and colognes to cover their natural scent, only the worst criminals in Hesoi cultures have the need to do that. Any scent-covering techniques used by others instinctively reads as untrustworthy to the Hesoi. While many races accuse the Hesoi of building their empire and the Mining Worlds that prop up the Galactic Exchange on the backs of slaves, they ardently defend the fact that they are merely servants working under the stipulations of their contracts.

Physical Description

The Hesoi are squat gecko-like beings with large, expressive eyes and bulging necks. Standing between 3 and 4 feet with thick, dragging tails, they are often clad in expensive silks and other displays of wealth. A skin-wreath surrounds their head, which can be lifted in displays of happiness or anger. As they grow, the Hesoi shed their skin in a ceremony of reinvention, returning to the bald, markless state that they were born. Within the next several days, the Hesoi will mark themselves with decorative dyes that will lock in until the next shedding, effectively putting on a new face for the next shedding cycle. The more extravagant the markings, the more wealthy the Hesoi, as it means that many "servants" have toiled over the dying of the Hesoi's skin in the short window they have.

The Hesoi language is bubbly and cheerful. The language, while easy on the ears, can be difficult to discern intent out of its tone -- which is likely on purpose.
