Variant Race
Holy Sprites, as the name suggests, are variants of sprites, and as such, anything true for them is true for holy sprites unless otherwise noted.
Anatomy
Holy Sprites are beings made entirely of mana and divine power, taking the appearance of wisp-like flames colored based on their magical alignment, sometimes having additional visual effects as mana burns off and turns to magic around them. Unlike normal sprites, who simply snuff out when disrupted or when they run out of mana, holy sprites will instead transmute into small crystal beads. So long as they are in an area sufficiently aligned to the divinity matching the sprite, this bead is incredibly durable, and so long as it remains intact, the holy sprite will be able to return to an animated state when it is able to feed on mana. When a sprite is overfed and hasn't adjusted to their new mass, they often take the form of an erratic ball of sparks and arcs of energy as their magic goes haywire.
Greater Sprites often take the form of small elementals with a few, simple limbs and a comet-like tail of energy, potentially with a "face" made from spots of denser mana, resulting in a brighter glow. Greater holy sprites can often take on additional features depending on the domain they're aligned to.
Reproduction
Sprites do not reproduce on their own, and are only created by masses of suitable ambient mana getting too high in an area. When the conditions are met, a sprite can form in the mass, where it then begins to consume the ambient mana it was born from, growing in size and density. Holy sprites differ in that they can also form in places where a domain's divine influence is strong, manifesting as living fragments of the influence itself.
Racial Magics
Sprites are simple creatures that have two primary abilities. They can consume mana similar enough to their own alignment, allowing them to grow in both size and power. Holy sprites can also draw power from divine influence in the area, allowing them to grow and use abilities similar to those granted by divine sparks; however, they are unable to store this power like they can with consumed mana, only being able to use and retain it while within the area of influence. They can use the mana they've consumed to perform magic, usually limited to the basic form of the magic for their alignment, though exceptions exist. Holy sprites do not detonate like normal sprites, simply returning to their bead form, with no special fanfare when the bead is damaged or even broken. Unlike most races, sprites are unable to regenerate their mana reserves naturally. If the holy sprite consumes too much incompatible mana, they often destabilize, detonate, and return to their bead form in the aftermath, though very rarely they can mutate into a new form of sprite. Mana sense, and the power to sense matching divinity, are the only sense these creatures possess, even lacking a sense of pain.
Personality Tendencies
Holy sprites are, generally, more docile than their non-divine cousins, due to the fact that they can sustain themselves off of divine influence. When removed from a place that can sustain them from holy energies, however, they prove even more ravenous than the standard sprite, consuming all the mana they can, often attacking those they can potentially get mana from. Sprites, in most cases, lack any cognitive ability greater than that of a starving amoeba. Many incredibly powerful magical creatures often have sprites following them, feeding off their aura, and holy sprites often closely follow divine creatures that they can use to not need mana to live.
Greater sprites, a variant born from sprites that consume many others of their kind, possess intelligence comparable to that of a kitten, and are known for seeking out those they like the mana of in an attempt to become a familiar, or similar companion, in hopes that the new master can keep them safe and feed them mana in exchange for the use of the sprite's magic. Greater holy sprites additionally have the instincts of carrying out the will of the god they're created from, unless otherwise directed by whoever they've bonded to, if they have.
Notes
Unlike most other divine races, holy sprites do not possess a divine spark of their own, rather only harnessing divine power from external sources where they can. As such, they lack the protections and abilities common among most divine races. if given a divine spark, and therefore transformed into a divine entri, they will often corrupt into phantoms.
Alchemical Uses
Catalyst magic, when applied to the bead form of the sprite at sufficient potencies, kills the sprite within, and converts the bead into a magical crystal charged with divine power. These can often be used to detect divine creatures, glowing in the presence of matching divinity, or even used to magnify the powers of an appropriate divine spark. The divine power within the beads can be recharged by leaving them unused within the matching divine presence.
