Small Dangers

Goblins

Little is known about goblins, or bakemono as they are also known. Violent but not very bright, they are small in size, around three to four feet in height, their build is hunched and twisted, with mouths full of sharp and misaligned teeth. Their skin color varies from pale green to dark olive, and they are said to reek of filth.
Where they originally come from is not known, and they have so far only been spotted in the southern regions of the Empire.

Kappa

Also known as "river children", these river spirits plague travelers with their dangerous tricks in order to feed on their blood. They are the size of a small child, with the face of an old man that often has a beak in place of a mouth. The top of their heads have a strange indentation that is always full of water, and it's said that if the water is drained from their head the kappa becomes weak and powerless.
They can be found in lakes, streams, and rivers, and they often attempt to trick those who come close so that they can drain their blood to eat. However they are also cowardly and will flee if faced with superior numbers.
An old wives' tale claims that a kappa can be bribed with cucumbers to save yourself from having your blood eaten.

Mujina

Small trickster spirits from Sakkaku, Mujina are an absolute pest and their pranks can more often than not be harmful or deadly for people. They are small and quick humanoids with spindly limbs and vestigial bat-like wings that they can use for flight. On their head they sport a number of horns, and they have several tiny but razorsharp teeth. Apart from those characteristics however, mujina can vary in appearance, with some thin and gangly, others rotund. Often they have orange skin, but other colors have been recorded.
Despite their small stature, they possess impressive strength, and they are capable of grasping and hurling objects larger and heavier than themselves. Worst of all, they seem to possess some powerful but limited magic, which they can use to turn invisible.

Pekkle

While not as violent as the Mujina, Pekkle also are spirits of Sakkaku who delight in mimicking the appearance of human beings from infancy up to young adult age, often managing to blend well into society with ease until they decide to unveil themselves.
They play the most cruel tricks on humans, as they are said to use their abilities to steal human children from their cribs and take the child's place for months, or even years, only to unexpectedly reveal themselves to rejoice in the misery of the parents.
