The Creators

Seeing that they are the only silicon-based life in the known universe, the timeless have theorized the existence of a god or group of gods that created them. The majority of timeless worship these gods, who they have come to know as "the Creators". In reality, the Creators is a group of human scientists who sought to discover a key to longevity. In their research they discovered the possibility of extreme stability in silicon-based biology. To test this discovery, they took donor eggs and sperm and replaced every carbon atom in each with a silicon atom. This experiment, painstaking as it was, was successful, and so the timeless were born. After proving the stability of silicon-based biology, they switched their objective studying the timeless: how long they live, how they evolve, the odd traits that arise from the silicon in their DNA, etc. At the time of the timeless' creation, humans had only been able to extend their lives to under two centuries. Because of this, the Creators that the timeless worship, or originally worshipped, are long deceased. One million years after the timeless' creation, the first timeless created are still alive and youthful and the current Creators have only been able to extend their lives by only a couple decades. The Creators reside in a large ship that they have blocked from the timeless' view. Due to the timeless' technological developments, however, they have almost been caught a couple times. Each year, the Creators "abduct" around three thousand timeless at random to perform a few noninvasive tests on them to see how their bodies are evolving from the inside out. Normally the timeless are all unconscious during the entire procedure, but one of the current Creators occasionally likes to wake one up and show them around.
