Elves
According to the lore of the ancient Imperial Elves, and by that most Dycides would say made up bullshit, the elven fracture happened in ancient days before the age of Dragons when they ruled all things. The splitting of elven societies was based on a want to remove their more rural cousins so the Imperials could focus not on cleaning up after their messes, but better to control the other fledgling races and guide them to a greater tomorrow. The Ajarans, however, say that Elves were born from a fountain on top of a mountain. Shorthand rule, never let the elves define their history because they will make themselves the giants of any story.
In Ethium the High Elves looked down on other races but often worked with them and watched their tongues. Imperials never learned either of these lessons. Believing themselves to be truly divine, the Imperial Elves worship only ideas, concepts or themselves rather than Gods. They view all other races as rabbling peasants that should do as they are commanded by their betters. Some say the Imperials were not always the bigots they became, but that might also be ancient Imperial Elven ‘lore.’
Outside of these elitist elves there are two more groups who tend to be more flexible. The Ajaran Elves have gone through a transition over the last few decades. Though they still believe the Ajaran Jungle their one true home, more and more they have flocked toward the Dycides who did not join in any assault against them in recent events. Their commanding mastery of the woods and jungles has made them excellent explorers filling in the last corners of the map.
The remaining ‘lesser’ elves, who prefer to call themselves Freebooters tend to be city travelers, and wander the Dycides at will. With a keen sense of city life and dexterity on ship and land alike. Some have said their true calling was to live amongst the people as knowledgeable counselors. Others speak of the wild sea and venturing far beyond the horizon, possibly finding a way to where the Ethium folk came from. The truth is a Freebooter’s calling is themselves and their freedom.
