Gunslinger

Primary Stats/Alignment:

Main Stats - Dexterity, Wisdom   Roles - DPS

Class Basics:

Gunslingers are powered by their grit, a commodity based on wisdom, and regenerated by critical hits and killing blows with their firearm. Through Deeds they spend Grit to enhance range, speed, targeting to show themselves the master of the gun. Through Dares they can find new risky ways to also regain their Grit. Traditionally they are lightly armored nimble fighter types and gain a decent amount of feats and gun specialization.

History in Dycides:

In the newly forming Pillar Corridor during the current age, gnomes first debuted this new mastery of combat when a group of marauding mountainous trolls attacked. Every gnome lived, the trolls were riddled with destruction and the gunslingers were born. Still not appreciated the Dycides over, they have taken to teaching others of the potency of the power of heavy iron. As gunsmithing is slowly becoming more wide spread, it most extremely spread to the nautical nations as Cannons are the latest way to destroy an enemy ship.

Religious Influence:

While those gnomes that were the first gunslingers never intended it to be associated with a religion, worshippers of Gorum seem to see their advent as a new hellish beast of war. While traditional bows are wooden in form, these iron guns have changed Gorumites mind on ranged combat. Traditional Good Gods have no blessings or interest in a new layer to pain in the world spread by the gunslinger.

Society:

0 to - (Neutral to Slightly Negative)   Gunslingers are considered to most as a Gnomish fad, and soon to be dispersed as simply another kind of fighter. Those with the skills of a Gunslinger often can do a trick or two to dissuade people from thinking them as just good with a new kind of ranged weapon. Others see Gunslingers as a mild threat because they represent a frightening new way to die. Guards are often likely to go through a long inspection process when a gunslinger comes to town to be sure they don’t have more strange gnomish devices to potentially cause trouble with.

Archetypes:

Pistolero

In the reformed pirate den of Barataria gnomish designs for pistols are built, and the deadly Pistoleros generate as much fear as the average rogue with ten times the garish style to boot. Often specializing in two handed combat, their pistol skills keep them in the middle of the action, reloading in a flash and are able to knock their opponents prone with multiple shots fired. Their precision at close range grants them sneak attack like damage potential. The only thing they sacrifice are the bulky two handed muskets. Skilled in their foreign weapons they saunter into any situation knowing they have the solution to it close at hand.

Musket Master

In the Imperium Pavos, a subsect of Forgeborn have been hired to design new ships, and with their appearance forges have been firing to craft their own signature muskets. The Musket master is the inverse of the Pistelero as they only use two handed muskets rather than one handed pistols. They gain instead greater distances they can fire from and the ability to increase their reload speed to match the pistoleros. Both boast strong damage capacity, but limited weapon variety. The Musket Masters however believe they will always have the upper hand with their increased range.

Gun Scavenger

“New ideas are never a bad idea,” is the philosophy behind the Gun Scanvengers of the Pillar Corridor. Subbing in experimental components into their guns, they have the ability to imbue magic qualities into their guns, have their pistol whip hit harder, convert their shot to scattershot or increase the range at which they fire. Their components to degrade and quickly, but it was worth it for the adventure for most of these gnomes. Their slightly mad natures also make their shots unpredictable, able to confound the most agile dodging creatures.

Gun Tank

In Atholia, they boast the greatest military might in the Dycides, viewing themselves as the hard line between the Dycides and another Age of Invasion. With that particular coldness they ‘recruited’ some gnomes of the Pillar Corridor to teach their dwarves how to craft firearms. After many failed attempts, the firearms of Atholia came along with the Gun Tanks to go with them. Where normal Gunslingers are agile fighters, Gun Tanks instead layer on armor and shields. With their resolve and resilience they shrug off critical hits and resist horrifying magic. They use their armor to brush off some alchemist bombs and gunfire. The price of lost ability is to be unable to avoid major magical bombardment.
