Oracle

Primary Stats/Alignment:

Main Stats - Charisma, Constitution   Roles - Blaster Caster, Primary Spellcaster, Healer, Party Face

Class Basics:

Oracles are the spontaneous divine caster of choice. Similar to a sorcerer’s bloodline they have a series of mystery revelations and bonus spells. They are not required to worship their source of magic as the Tengu of Ethium believe, and some resent their source of power because of their curse. An oracles curse debilitates them in some way, but as they gain power they harness their difficulty to gain more power.

History in Dycides:

During the age of Giants the knowledge and light of the Patheon of Gods was exposed to the continent the Giants named Bafettir (meaning ‘healthy land’ in their tongue). At this time with the knowledge of the Gods, their chosen slowly became apparent. Usually taking on roles in the early church, Oracles were considered the blessed saints of formal religions. After the age of Vacancy and into the age of Invasion Oracles were seen less and less important, as new more formalized roles in the churches formed. In recent history as Ethium chose to kill any Oracle that was not of Atar, Oracles are often seen more as refugees than saints giving the people of the Dycides mixed feelings about these unfortunate people.

Religious Influence:

As oracles are seen as more everyday people than in the past, they are just as likely to join the faith of their deity as abandon it, and disdain their principles. One chosen by Norgorber can fight for the light, as one chosen by Sarenrae can seek only destruction. Though they might have impulses to change that perspective, those especially whose family comes from Ethium can see religious presecution as a norm and want nothing to do with any diety, especially those that both blessed and cursed them.

Society:

0 to + (Neutral to Slightly Positive)   While oracles are no longer pulled into active clergy roles, if one can show their magic divine and helpful, they are accepted into a community with open arms. Those oracles who come from Ethium, stranded in a strange land are treated with pity, but not necessarily lodgings as their nature is often an unknown.

Archetypes:

Black-Blooded Oracle

The Fugue of Mist Island drive all that attempt to invade the island mad. Those mind-shattered but somehow escape the clutches of the island are thought to have been let free to keep others out. A strange influence drags others toward the island. The Black-Blooded Oracles have no known source of Divine magic, but find an inescapable need to go to The Fugue. Black-Blooded have an undead-like taint, that influences healing, but are resistant to necromantic effects. This strange group of oracles would be studied, but most know that island to be cursed and dare not pursue those that have such a suicidal desire to enter a place they will likely never leave.

Enlightened Philosopher

Salvan searches for understanding in the past. Golaith’s Altar is stuck trying to define what is right or wrong analytically. Sightborn is caught in looking to the future rather than seeing the world as it is. In Maven’s Sanctuary the Enlightened Philosopher’s seek truth through compassion, seeking to see the world truly with eyes open. They speak to those seeking solace in the sanctuary to decide what their true meaning is, then leave to pursue it. Knowledgeable and informed they are seen as pedantic by some but incredibly wise by others.

Seer

Some think Sightborn was formed to aid the Seers that have come to it. Able to snap glimpses of the future, they commune with their Gods to discern the meanings of what they have seen. What they often see is unnerving but they soldier forward. The Seers claim calamity for the Dycides may soon be at hand. Many assume they are simply pandering for attention. Many, but not all...

Warsighted

A bastion of freedom and independence, New Ferdalag has both drawn hopeful into their ranks as well as the threat of an outside force crushing them. An unlikely group of Oracles from Scrumfalls Monastery have come forward to defend their land’s bid for emancipation, the Warsighted. Working with the monks of the region they have become flexible warriors in their own right, able to adapatively change their nature to meet the threat at hand. As the Kervosh threatens the Warsighted prepare their counterstrike.
