Ranger

Primary Stats/Alignment:

Main Stats - Strength or Dexterity, Wisdom   Roles - DPS, Scout

Class Basics:

A mixture between a rogue, druid, and fighter, the ranger has a specialized martial focus decided early (ranged tends to be the stronger choice). They tend toward specializing in specific terrains and fighting certain types of enemies. Both evasive and excellent trackers they hunt their quarry and hunt with enhanced skill bases, and stealth on their side.

History in Dycides:

The first people to build society in the Dragon Jaw Wilds were the ancient rangers. Able to find food and stay out of the attention of the greater threats to the people they protected many rangers of the modern age still find this their duty in a world where the wilds are much diminished. As more and more people are born in cities, they seem less and less aware of what is beyond their walls, and rangers still serve the people in that way.

Religious Influence:

Though some rangers assume Erastil or Gozreh are their primary deities, Rangers often take no side in the realm of faith or are effected most by the faith they grew up in. Many rangers see themselves as the barrier between their favored enemies and the rest of the world and may take up faiths based on that purpose. A ranger set on removing aberrations from the world may find faith in Torag, whether of dwarven ancestory or not, because Torag hates aberrations. Rangers that see Imperial elves as a blight on this world may disdain the teachings of Calistria as she is associated with elves. The fact that Imperial elves don’t worship her would be inconsequential to their dislike of Calistria.

Society:

0 to + (Neutral to Slightly Positive)   Many overland routes in the Dycides have the potential of threats and any good traveler welcomes a ranger to make that trip with them. Often assumed to be able to read the mind of monsters and animals alike, rangers rarely travel alone unless they want to. When a ranger enters a city, though their usefulness seen at an end, they are treated as any other Dycides citizen. Those that establish new routes and find paths safer for businesses, often find discounts or free good levied for their good will.

Archetypes:

Infiltrator

The Undine of the Blue Haven seek to eliminate any threat the world poses to nature. Taking their favored enemy capabilities to the next level they ignore favored terrains in order to emulate that which they hunt. They steal the nature of their quarries, but unlike the wild hunter which takes animal aspects, the Infiltrator can steal the acid resistance of an ooze, the elven immunity to sleep, or the iron will of the dragons themselves. What they hate they emulate to destroy all the more efficiently.

Guide

The wide Prekrine Desert claims lives of wayward travelers daily. The only way through some of these hardy lands is with the help of a Ranger Guide. Specialized in terrain mastery they pass on extreme bonuses to their allies while traveling through them. They do not bother with hatred of a single species but focus on a target at hand. With bouts of luck and bursts of speed they cover more land than most, seeing their charges through the wilds with ease.

Wild Hunter

The greatest Trackers of the Seven Scale Tribes not only stalk their prey but gain their aspect through the hunt. Rather than focus on a few narrow kinds of enemies they instead use animalistic powers to enhance both them and their allies whether it be party members or animal companion. These bonuses can make even the cluckiest armored hulk stealthy, or make their beast even stronger as the hunt concludes.

Skirmisher

The Rangers of the Kingdom of White Flowers typically do not spell cast, as being a weak spell caster was not a spell caster worth being. Instead, they master tricks of the wild, granting them mobility and capabilities that exceed those off a normal ranger. These skirmishers take on hunter tricks similar to rogue talents, somehow improving on their impossible grace and poise. After a trick shot slays enough people it gets boring, and they look to their next talent to hunt the beasts of the world.
