Baron/Baroness

Above a knight but the lowest aristocratic ranks in nobility is the Baron, a minor noble who has pledged fealty to a superior in return for land. This land was either governed in the stead of their liege or owned themselves as a barony. This land generally consisted of a few villages within an extended region and some farms or untamed land. A Baron can also be in control of other Barons.
