    Exposition

*Story Structure Awaiting Revision 10/08/22*   3 years after Huron’s disappearance, Hado, king of Crimea, was murdered during a coup led by his closest friend and Great General, Wahlard Brandt. Now calling himself the Flame Emperor, Wahlard began to lead his loyalists to the nobles of the Crimea, pressing them for their allegiance in secret as news of King Hado’s murder begin to spread throughout Crimea. Lord Melfoy, noble of the Northern Crimea, was adamantly against the Flame Emperor’s rule, but with the backing of the crown, he found himself without allies and without hope to stop the Flame Emperor's spread of influence.   Meanwhile Mabu Eis and Mabu Aria, two sisters of the Navatulands, were making their way north to the domain of Lord Baran, a noble of Western Crimea offering to house the envoys until their meeting with King Hado. Upon their arrival within Lord Baran’s domain, the two sisters were concerned to have not been met at the gate by their escort, finding their arrival ill-timed as news of the Flame Emperor’s demands had just reached the lord’s court. As was the case with the other nobles of Crimea, The Flame Emperor demanded absolute loyalty from Lord Baran and the others, lest they be subjugated by force. Unsure of how to react, Lord Baran found himself tense until the Mabaru sisters arrive in his court. Having been a part of Gor Dol’s council themselves, their wisdom was taken into account, helping Lord Baran finally come to the decision to side against the Flame Emperor.    His sudden decision to rebel left Baran short of options. Of the 4 notable nobles of Crimea, only Lord Melfoy could be assured to be counted on as an ally. Lady Winona to the South and the Tenshi Clan to the East would be harder allies to make under the pressure of the Flame Emperor’s forces. Messengers to request aid were sent to the Navatulands in the south and the Gigantes Kingdom to the north but help would most likely not arrive in time. Desperate for an immediate solution, Lord Baran confided in the two sisters of a third option, seek the aid of the Icarus in the floating city of Delphi. Unknown to most, the city of Delphi was a place not easily accessed, but Lord Baran had once offered aid to a traveling Icarus and was gifted the knowledge of how to reach them. Trusted with this information, the sisters set off to the underground pathway that would lead them to the Icarus.   Within the underground city of Crete, Aria and Eis kept to the shadows, in hopes of not rousing the suspicion of the Nagafolk that made their home in the caverns. Their attempts at stealth didn't work long however and Aria found herself locked into combat with the Naga, her combat experience allowing her to cut through her enemies as they made their way towards the exit. Blocking her path appeared Caothannach, the monstrous leader of the Naga as she in and Aria engaged in combat. During the fight, Eis manages to cause a series of cave collapses, interrupting the fight and allowing Aria and Eis to barely escape towards the pathway to Delphi.   Upon arriving in the floating city of Delphi, the sisters were immediately met and brought to the city’s Grand Seer. Pythra, the Great Seer of Delphi,  warned the two sisters that the Flame Emperor was being aided by the God of Fire, Huron, having escaped his earthbound prison a few years ago. Empowered by Huron, the Flame Emperor would soon usher the people of the Earthly Realm into a period of chaos if not stopped, for there was yet greater darkness to come in the future. To stop this future threat, both sisters would be called upon to play their part in changing the fate of the world. When asked what Lord Baran should do to stand against the Flame Emperor, Pythra began to use her power to commune with the Gods for guidance. For a time she was silent but suddenly Pythra began to convulse, crying out. Desperate to ease her pain Eis reached out to touch the woman. Suddenly she too, began to convulse as she gasped, now finding herself alone in what appeared to be a dark void. A voice, originating from no place, in particular, spoke to Eis, both commanding and gentle. Eis watched in awe as two figures began to materialize from the darkness in front of her and she rushed to bow as she found herself in the presence of Dimas, Goddess of Creation, and Fos, the God of Destruction.    Aria sighed in relief as both Eis and Pythra finally regained consciousness. Pythra, shocked at what had just transpired, looked to Eis for a moment before informing the others what they had seen. The Flame Emperor, having made a pact with the God of Fire, had become a demigod and was now beyond mortal means of being dealt with. Pythra paused for a moment before revealing that Eis has been gifted and was also able to convene with the Gods, something no one besides the Icarus have done before. Promising to train Eis to better use her powers, Pythra tasks Aria with returning to inform Baran to send forces north to assist Lord Melfoy before his death. New tasks in mind, Aria returns to Rhoa alone while Eis prepares to train her new gift.   Aria arrives just in time to warn Lord Baran of Pythra's vision, causing the noble to ready his forces to Lord Melfoy's aid. Led by Aria, a small army moves north to aid the northern noble. Luckily, Aria and her forces arrive just in time, as Lord Melfoy's troops have been pushed to their limits at the hands of Octavia, the right hand of the Flame Emperor and a powerful swordswoman. Before she can strike a fatal blow to the noble, Aria rushes in deflect Octavia's blade. The two clash for a moment before Octavia's sword is suddenly engulfed in flames, allowing her to overpower the Navatu swordswoman. Despite being face to face with such a powerful opponent, Melfoy's most loyal retainers sacrifice themselves to allow Aria, Melfoy, and the small remaining troops from both armies to retreat to Lord Baran's domain. Though Lord Melfoy's domain was lost, the retrieval of the northern Crimean noble would do much for the morale of Baran's troops. This would only increase as an army of Navatu warriors arrives to aid the nobles against the Flame Emperor, led by Gor Batu, son of the Great Chieftain. Lord Baran quickly summons a war council, headed by Baran himself, Lord Melfoy, Mabu Aria, and Gor Batu. After considering all of their options, Lord Baran announces his split from the rest of Crimea, creating the city-state of Rhoa to stand against the Flame Emperor, now aided by the Navatu.   As word of the creation of the city-state of Rhoa and the Flame Emperor's subjugation of the Crimea spreads around the Earthly Realm, the Flame Emperor begins to plan. Summoning his 4 generals for a war council of his own in preparation for phase two of his plan to expand his control over the world.

    Rising Action

Mabaru Aria and Gor Batu finally reach the Great Beast Forest en route to the Gigantes Kingdom of Joutann to gain their aid in the war against Crimea and the Flame Emperor. From the second they entered the enchanted forest, it seemed like every large and scary beast made its way to them to cause trouble. As the duo continued to push through, they came face to face with Neem and Ledya, dryads of the Great Beast Forest determined to chase off their attackers, even if it meant their deaths. Confused, Aria and Batu tried explaining they were attacked unprovoked until Ledya lets it slip Crimea has started attempts to cut down the Great Beast Forest, destroying the home for hundreds of beasts and the dryads who live among them as their protectors. At a severe disadvantage fighting these dryads in unfamiliar territory, Aria and Batu were forced to resort to a tactical retreat, splitting up and agreeing to meet up on the other end of the Great Beast Forest later.   Aria took a deep breath when she finally managed to get away from her dryad and beast pursuers. Finding a moment of peace, the Navatu woman attempted to hide and get some rest before continuing her journey to Joutann. Aria wasn't asleep long before she found her instinctual body reflexes kicking into her arm as the sound of two pairs of footsteps approach her from behind. As she turned to meet her foes, Aria was shocked to see two children, not like any she'd seen before. The children lacked clothes, instead covered in various foliage. Both wore circlets made of laurels and twigs while their toothy grins showed signs of bestial features. The twins, introducing themselves as Sans and Yumi appeared before Aria with a proposition; they would help her and her friend escape as long as they took the twins with them. Curious as to their end goals but desperate to help her friend, Aria agrees and the three of them head off into the forest.   Meanwhile to the south in the Navatulands, Xan Adu and Xan Obe, are looking for a way to defeat Crimea as word of a Southern Campaign reaches their small village. Rumored to be led by a traitorous Navatu warrior, Crimea's invasion quickly swept the Navatulands into panic. After Xan Obe's father's sacrifice on the frontlines to slow the advance of Crimean forces, all hope appears to be lost until the duo hears of a cave where the answers of the universe are thought to rest. Despite being everything the two young men were looking for, entering this cavern was a great taboo of their people, for the knowledge sought after within the cave was thought to be knowledge the Navatu should never resort to lest they risk corruption of their souls. Not deterred, Xan Adu and Xan Obe enter the cave, prepared to deal with the consequences upon their return. Deep down in the furthest parts of the mysterious cavern, Xan Adu and Xan Obe found themselves face to face with two masked men. Recognizing them to be of Navatu descent, the young men plead for help in the upcoming war. As the elder masked man motions for them to come closer, he agrees to teach the duo magic, not of their world, but in return, they will owe him a favor in the future. Agreeing for the sake of their people, the two young men undergo training to learn the secret teachings of the masked man. For four days Xan Adu and Xan Obe train to learn everything they can until on the fifth day since descending into the caverns, the two emerge from the cave just as Crimean invaders have reached their home village.   Meanwhile Gor Batu frantically runs through the Great Beast Forest as he's chased by Neem and Ledya, determined to focus on catching what they considered the weaker of the two first to lure the other out. Though at a disadvantage, Batu can use a variety of tricks and traps to stall long enough for Aria to appear, making the fight two on two once more. As Neem summons the power of the forest itself to fight against the two, Batu attempts to save a young ngepet piglet, an unfortunate victim of his escape from the dryads previously, while Aria takes the strange children and makes a run for the edge of the forest. Ledya, wide-eyed, screams to Neem not to let them escape as she attempts to block off Aria's path of escape. Unwilling to falter, Aria cuts Ledya down, enraging Neem to the extent that she's unaware as Batu triggers a final trap, causing an explosion to knock back the angry dryad woman as Aria and the others finally escape to the other side of the Great Beast Forest.   Now armed with new power, Xan Adu shocks both friend and foe alike as he raises corpses from the earth to fight under his control, slaughtering the confused Crimean soldiers until they sound for retreat. Though the battle was won, Xan Adu's people could not look past his blatant disregard of their taboo, deciding that his use of these "dark magics" would bring misfortune to them all if he and all others like him were not exiled from their village. Before Xan Obe could speak up in his defense, Xan Adu took the blame alone, leaving his village to wander the Navatulands, resolved to kill every last Crimean invader and protect his homeland by any means necessary. With a heavy heart, Xan Obe watches his friend leave, promising not to take lightly what his friend had done for him. The elder masked man peers from his cave and motions to his companion to follow Xan Adu, and ensure the man lives by any means necessary. The taller masked man nods, disappearing into the shadows of the cave to prepare for his mission.   Ledya and Neem, teary-eyed, kneel before a massive tree in the center of the Great Beast Forest, expressing their sincerest apologies for allowing the mortals to escape. Lowered by low-hanging branches of the gargantuan tree, Acacia, Queen of the Dryads, smiles, simply expressing relief her two treasured friends are safe. Ledya, increasingly nervous expresses gratitude for her queen's grace, but regrets informing her that the twins had escaped. Behind the tree, another dryad frowned as Acacia's face remained stoic at the news.

    Climax

Mabaru Aria, Gor Batu, and the twins, Yumi and Sans, have begun to bond en route to the Gigantes capital city. Everything comes crashing down when a casual stop in a traveler's camp results in Yumi and Sans getting kidnapped, forcing Aria to continue moving forward with her mission while Batu tails the kidnappers. As she arrives at the capital city, Aria is pleased to see her note from Lord Baran granted her an immediate audience with the King. Her joy is short-lived, however, as King Balor of Joutann refuses her request for aid, stating that the Gigantes have nothing to gain in aiding them. Fighting back her anger, Aria simply leaves, promising the Gigantes King that there will come a day he needs more than the strength of his own kingdom. With nothing left for her in the capital, Aria prepares to head out when she finds herself surrounded by Gigantes soldiers, acting in defense of their king's dignity that this Navatu woman would speak to him in such a way. While  fighting back the soldiers, Aria's blades both shatter, putting her at a massive disadvantage until she receives the unlikely aid of a Gigantes man, appearing from the nearby alleyway. The large man guides her through the back streets of the capital city until they're sure they'd lost their pursuers and finally have a chance to breathe. Grateful for his assistance, Aria thanks the Gigantes man who introduces himself as Ogoron, a retired blacksmith. After understanding that they both need to flee the capital after angering its King, the two agree to travel together, at least as far as the port city of Skymrad to the west. Hoping to find Batu there, Aria sneaks out of the capital city, her impression of King Balor soured.   Meanwhile, Eis gasps awake after a painfully ominous vision. In it, the world was covered in darkness, only illuminated by fire as the world seemed to be set ablaze. As she ran through the flames, the voices of screams and her loved ones pierced the darkness until she came face to face with a Navatu man, surrounded by a field of corpses. As she fought to regain her grip on reality, the mysterious man's words rang out in her head. To find him and help him defy fate. Against the wishes of Pythra but accompanied by the young acolyte, Androssi and Eros, captain of the Delphi guardsman, Eis heads back to the Navatulands in search of this mysterious man. During their search, Eis, Eros and Androssi find themselves ambushed and captured by Crimean forces, headed by Gor Koga, the Traitor of the Navatulands. Though he promises not to hurt the three of them as long as they cooperate, things get chaotic when an alarm sounds, warning Koga and his forces that the "Corpse Lord" has appeared again. In no time at all, the hillside opposite Koga's camp appears black as night as an army of the undead amble their way towards the Crimean army. The fighting is brutal but seemingly hopeless for the Crimean forces as their dead eventually end up rising to fight against their own people as part of the Corpse Lord's army, forcing Koga to sound yet another retreat as he sets the camp ablaze. Cutting his captives free, he warns them to escape while they can before they join the Corpse Lord's army themselves as he disappears into the night. As the Crimean forces begin to flee, the Corpse Lord, revealed to be Xanadu appears on the wreckage of the battlefield, scouring for supplies as he runs into Eis. Both groups are wary of the other, Xanadu is mesmerized by the sight of Androssi, the first Icarus he's ever laid eyes upon. Confusing her with a Goddess, Xanadu drops to his knees and weeps, begging for help in stopping Crimea, allowing himself to feel all the emotions he kept bottled up from the moment he was exiled from the Noh Tribe. Confused on if this was truly the man from her vision, Eis and her allies help the Corpse Lord escape the flaming camp and make their way somewhere safe to talk.   Having trailed the kidnappers to the port city of Skymrad, Gor Batu made sure to scout out the city for their hideout. As he tries to gain information on the kidnapping group, he catches up the attention of the city guards and their captain, a Nereid woman named Scylla. After explaining his situation to them, they agree to assist each other in a takedown of the kidnapper's hideout. Right as Scylla gives the word, the city guard charge the hideout and a fight breaks out. During the commotion, the kidnapper leader attempts to escape with Sans and Yumi, with Batu and Scylla in hot pursuit. Just as the kidnappers think they're about to get away, Ogoron and Aria appear, catching the kidnappers off guard and assisting Batu and Scylla in the apprehension of the criminal group.   Thanking Aria and her friends for their help, Scylla explains that from what the kidnappers told them, the real mastermind is Lord Dagar, a noble of the Joutann, selling children into slavery to amass funds before Crimea's invasion in order to buy himself immunity. Though they found no direct link to Dagar, the group was certain that with their combined efforts they would surely be able to stop Dagar's plot. With a nod in unison, Mabu Aria, Gor Batu, Ogoron the blacksmith, and Scylla the Guard Captain made their alliance to save Joutunn from the threat of Crimea and the Flame Emperor.   Gor Koga and the last of his forces are almost about to cross back over into Crimean territory when they come face to face with Chicot the Pyrekeeper, another of the Flame Emperor's four generals. When questioned why he was abandoning his post, Koga simply replied that they were greatly unprepared for what the Navatu had at their disposal. Chicot scoffed off Koga's words as nothing more than cowardice, stating the Flame Emperor does not need cowards. As Koga armed himself at the threat, behind him screams of agony rang out as Chicot used his magic to set the ragtag soldiers ablaze. As he effortlessly dodged Koga's attacks, he taunted the Navatu warrior, inquiring what use the Flame Emperor has for someone who would even betray their own people, to which Koga did not answer. Chicot smiled. He would get his answers one way or another as the two charged each other, bloodlust clear in their eyes.

    Falling Action

Aria's group defeats and captures Lord Dagar, ruining his scheme to take over Joutann. Despite this, they're still unable to gain the aid of King Balor. Though their kingdom will not support Rhoa, the people of Skymrad and the surrounding villages and hamlets get their able-bodied men and women together to fight against the Flame Emperor's forces, much to the delight of Aria and her group. En route back to their home base of Rhoa, Aria is surprised to find the Great Beast Forest besieged by Crimean forces, led by the Flame Emperor himself. Rushing to the aid of the dryads, Aria and her allies run into Pangaea, a young dryad acting as the messenger for Queen Acacia. Proposing an alliance between the two forces, Acacia pledges to put forth her dryads and beasts to fight alongside Rhoa against Crimea. In return for their alliance, however, Acacia requests the return of Sans and Yumi.   The children had been an enigma for the entirety of the time they all traveled together but Aria still was unable to agree to the terms, bowing to the dryad messenger and asking if there's anything else she could do. Pangaea frowned, asking why she'd stick her neck out for two children she doesn't even know, stating that the two of them are very important to the Great Beast Forest and the dryad people themselves. Sans and Yumi, revealing themselves to be mandragora, explain that one day they two will ascend into dryads, becoming the next rulers of the Great Beast Forest. Despite this fact, the two of them have no desire to rule as dryads, simply wanting to travel the world and enjoy life like anyone else, something that Aria deeply resonated with and again Aria stated her resolve to allow the twins to live how they wish, begging the dryad for any other favor. Pangaea's expression then changed to that of a smile, looking warmly at the group and thanked Aria that the children could have formed such strong bonds in such a short period of time. Pangaea agreed to plead with Acacia on their behalf, stating her favor would simply be for Aria to protect Sans and Yumi with her life.   Meanwhile, in the Navatulands, Xanadu, accompanied by his new allies, has managed to push back the last of Crimea's troops out of the Navatulands with the mass of undead he'd gathered in the past few months. Despite only wanting the best for the Navatu people, his skeletal and undead army made Xanadu's presence an ill omen for many, forcing him to help on the battlefield as opposed to offering aid to his people whom he cares for. In his place, however, Eis and Androssi would visit villages who'd suffered as a result of the war and offer aid. Androssi's presence started rumors that a Goddess walked among the Navatu, strengthening their spirits and causing the two women to be met with warmer and warmer welcomes in each new location they aided. Though he knew he'd never receive the same adoration from his people, Xanadu held no ill feelings for Androssi or Eis, finding their occasional company more than comforting enough to help him get by the weeks he'd devoted to fighting Crimea.   As his forces approach the southern Crimean borders, Eis and Xanadu were stunned at the horrific sight before them as they prepared to enter the territory of Lady Winona. Before they were Crimean soldiers, recognizable as Gor Koga's men, alongside their leader, strapped to burning stakes. As the cries of the men filled the open field, atop the scaffolds of Lady Winona's castle stood Temujin, warrior of Eastern Crimea, and Chicot the Pyrekeeper, a wickedly sinister smile upon his face. Gor Koga, in his final moments, screamed out for forgiveness to the Corpse Lord, exclaiming he only fight for Crimea to ensure their people were not wiped out in the great war to come. Before he could reveal more, Chicot set Koga's stake ablaze, turning the once-proud Navatu warrior into nothing but cinders before a shocked Xanadu. Lady Winona frowned as she peered over at the sight of Xanadu's army, exclaiming to Chicot that she hopes he keeps the undead out of Crimea, to which Chicot gives a deep bow, giving his word to wiping out all who stand against the Flame Emperor. Their missions clear, both commanders let out a war cry as their armies charge each other in a vicious flurry of bone and blade.   Faced with the threat of General Deckhardt's command, Lord Baran and Gor Dol just barely had been able to hold back the force of Crimea's armies from rolling through Rhoa. The battle was greatly swayed in their favor with the arrival of Mabu Aria, the Skymrad militia, and the mass of beasts at the command of the dryad queen. With these added numbers, Deckhardt was forced to retreat, giving the people of Rhoa their first moment's rest since Aria's leave over a month ago. After a wall council with representatives of each force present, Lord Baran officially launches his counterattack against Crimea.   Meanwhile on the Southern battlefield, Xanadu finds his undead forces losing against the superior Mogis warriors. Accustomed to desert warfare, the Mogis were skilled combatants, led by their undeniably powerful leader, Temujin. As the Mogis leader cut his way closer to Xanadu, Eis entered the fray, tapping into the full extent of her precognition to foresee incoming attacks and evade at the last second. With her new advantage in combat, Eis is able to join Damaali in combat and is able to temporarily hold out long enough for Xan Obe to arrive to the battlefield, joined by an undead army of his own, alongside neighboring Navatu warriors. Shocked and relieved at the support he's received, Xanadu launches his counterattack.
  • Lord Baran, Pangaea, and Gor Dol form the allied forces and launch a counterattack to invade Crimea and stop the Flame Emperor. Within two months the allied forces have managed to push deep into Crimea due to the absence of two of its four generals and the great discord spread rampantly around the country. Meanwhile, Xanadu has a showdown with Chicot the Pyrekeeper, one of the Flame Emperor's generals.
  • As the final battle approaches, Deckhardt takes to the field to halt the advance of the allied forces. In a decisive final fight against Ogoron, it is revealed that Deckhardt is a half-Gigantes, potentially the bastard son of King Balor who was cast aside for his halfling heritage. Being only half-blood, Deckhardt is unable to use Gargantua magic for longer than 2 minutes normally as the strain on his body would eventually kill him. However, as he fights Ogoron, he pushes himself to the limit and ends up fighting for a full 15 minutes in the giant form before finally dying standing tall on his feet like a giant. Having gained Ogoron's respect, he is left standing as the allied forces push deeper into Crimea.   After it is revealed that Lady Winona has secretly allied with Lord Melfoy upon Crimea's invasion, she turns against the Crimean forces, closing her borders to Chicot and Temujin, forcing them to handle the full force of Xanadu's forces without retreat as an option as icarus of Delphi take to the skies to support Xanadu's forces. His hand forced, Chicot enables the full range of his remaining power to wipe out Xanadu's army in return for rendering himself defenseless, stating it would be better for the Flame Emperor should he never have to encounter such a frightening force. Their battle ended, Xanadu and Eis question Chicot and it is revealed that Chicot is actually Huron, the God of Fire, in disguise having lost most of his power in his formed pact with the Flame Emperor. He waged this war because the Flame Emperor is his chosen champion to fight against the great darkness that is coming that Huron was told would end the world in two years after he escaped from his prison. This information matches with both Xanadu's and Eis's visions, as the group comes to realize this war is only the beginning of what is to come.   Across the country, Crimean forces are surrendering before the combined might of the allied forces, joined by the naga of Crete and the Joutunn Army after the initial victory against Crimea. With no options left before them but to move forward, the Flame Emperor holes up in his castle and prepares to meet any who would oppose him. Lord Baran plans to have Aria, Scylla, and Batu sneak inside the castle to assassinate the king while the allied forces distract the main forces to end the war sooner rather than later. Their plans go off without a hitch until the three finally stand before the Flame Emperor, empowered with divine strength. With the remainder of his power gifted by the God of Fire, the Flame Emperor meets the trio in combat, easily holding his own against the three warriors until their nonstop efforts prove to be too much for him, and eventually the Flame Emperor falls before Aria's newly forged swords as she delivers the final blow.   With the Flame Emperor dead, the trio prepares to spread the good news until Scylla is struck down from behind suddenly. Appearing before the two remaining warriors stood Octavia, the Flame Emperor's final and strongest general. In an instant, Octavia capitalizes on their shock and confusion, aiming to kill Aria in one strike but Batu recovers in time to get between the two, reminding Aria the fight isn't over until all of the Flame Emperor's forces stop fighting. Aria nods, telling Batu to go ahead and spread the word of the Flame Emperor's death. Though hesitant, he left Aria and Octavia to continue their final one-on-one duel. Before he can reach the exit, Batu finds his path cut off by Ishida Tenshi, lord of the East and a powerful samurai in his own right. Outmatched in terms of close combat, Batu struggles to widen the gap between them as the samurai swiftly launches attack after attack.   The fighting between Aria and Octavia is evenly matched at first, with neither woman giving up a single hit until Octavia starts dual-wielding rapiers, giving her the upper hand against Aria until she too, starts dual-wielding. The two women are once again evenly matched, the once graceful fight between them devolved into a test of endurance as the both of them begin cutting into the other. As Octavia seeks to end things with a parry and thrust, Aria takes advantage of the opportunity, taking a blow to the abdomen in exchange for robbing Octavia of her dominant sword arm. At the same time, Batu has managed to sneak behind Ishida Tenshi, effectively disarming him from close range and forcing him to surrender in order to better aid his people in the coming days. The now crippled Octavia collapses to the ground and with that, Aria and Batu have officially ended the War of Flames.
