Criminal Activity
Matthew Ives Turner, aka Ivory, is put on trial. The verdict sheds light on a terrible secret and reveals the first of religious zealots called Revelators.
The capture and arrest of Ivory, then revealed with the real name of Matthew Ives Turner, spawned controversy and debate once the general public learned that he was a descendant of "Savage" Kenneth Masters. While the Apollo News Network rooted around Apollo City and beat down Mayor Katrina Masters' door for more concrete answers, APD TOU Lieutenant Elijah Maxwell reigned in the chaos by publicly backing the humanitarian efforts of both ex-mayor Augustus Griffith and Director Jesse Faden, stating that they were prime examples of what true heroes did -- save civilians and eliminate threats without collateral damage. While numerous people took to interrogating and interviewing Ivory, from the new Queen of Old Town Rheuma to Quartermaster Revenant Emeric and Watchdog leader Trevor Jakobs to Mayor Kat herself, Lieutenant Maxwell was reprimanding local superhero Gwen Stacy for her reckless behavior during the White Rabbit Hunt. Though nervous, Gwen defended her position that she captured Ivory and helped save lives, to which Lt. Maxwell pointed out those were the reasons she was only getting a fine and community service. But in the reflection of their post-chase discussion, Maxwell made a direct order to Gwen that she was not to engage in any heroics or wear her costume until her fine was paid and her community service was completed. Although furious at his order, she had no choice but to accept and stormed out of their meeting with the intent on being a superhero in a different way. Though, even with her attempt at following APD orders, an impromptu visit from Detective Keith Marshall, complete with Chinese food, ultimately led to her being arrested after refusing to give up her friend Sakuya and admitting that the fugitive of the White Rabbit hunt was an associate of hers. Faced with photographic evidence and an empathetic but duty-bound Det. Marshall, Gwen was placed in jail to await trial. After Ivory's capture, Old Town was, for a time, completely up for grabs until Rheuma seized the opportunity to capitalize on her meeting with Constantin at the Thirsty's Nightclub. With Director Jesse Faden following undercover, Rheuma was infuriated when she heard Constantin's arrangement in order for her to get a piece of the gang pie, delegating her beneath the hierarchy as nothing more than a glorified mule. When she demanded a counteroffer, one of the top Madames, Marlena, suggested that Rheuma would be able to entice them with her counteroffer only if she agreed to work as a prostitute under her for a indeterminate amount of time. This offer enraged Rheuma to the point that she smashed Marlena through the back office wall and into the nightclub's dancefloor. There, their wrestling and fight for control only devolved into a sexual display of dominance between Rheuma, Marlena and a bottle of Don Julio 1942, forcing at least one of them into an explosive orgasm. This enthralled the clubbing Dhampirs into a sexual frenzy, something that even influenced Director Faden and nearly compromised her with a reacharound from the local bartender. However, it was disrupted by Constantin when he realized how much damage was being done to the nightclub and gave Rheuma information which would lead to her meeting the gang leaders of Old Town, including one of the secretive Lightbloods of the Nosferatu Boys. After a few emails, Rheuma eventually met with the gang leaders of the Garou Gang, the Nosferatu Boys and The Bloody Clovers at a preschool after hours. Coinciding the spying heroes and a late-night conflict not too far away, Rheuma was able to finally convince all of the gang leaders that she was the perfect fit to rule Old Town. Back in Apollo City, Lt. Maxwell spoke to both Ivory and his stellar defense attorney, Phoenix Wright, concerning a potential settlement deal. Maxwell offered to bring him down to a lesser charge of second-degree murder if he gave a full confession, informed the APD where his drug caches were and gave him full detail on the gangs he was affiliated with. Ivory refused, instead invoking his right for a speedy trial and signing paperwork for Phoenix Wright to represent him immediately. Undeterred, Lt. Maxwell informed him that his trial would begin in two days, leaving little to no time for the defense team to prepare for the case and slighting Ivory even further. The week of the trial ignited one of the most landmark cases Apollo city ever had, pitting Lt. Maxwell as sole prosecutor against the defense team of Phoenix Wright, Jackie Cullshard and mysterious dragon CEO Avath. For days, testimony came from Dr. Shiori Amakusa, Augustus Griffith, Gwen Stacy, Commander Hannah and even Ivory himself. During testimony, Ivory informed Lt. Maxwell that he was the product of a violent rape between Kenneth Masters and his mother, Mary Turner. In the aftermath, Ivory's mother was soon diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a mental condition that was heavily exacerbated by the trauma of the rape and Ivory's conception. As a result, Ivory's childhood was a living hell, plagued by anxiety, physical and mental abuse, and the fact that his father was a genocidal maniac. When pushed on what happened to his mother, Ivory confessed that, when he was sixteen, his mother plotted to kill him in his sleep but that, during the eventual struggle with a butcher's knife, he accidentally stabbed her. Her death and last words, telling Ivory that he belongs in hell with his father, was the starting point to him becoming a criminal. But it was Ivory's admission concerning his disability that helped his case. He told the jury that, without Cilvenidon (Stars), he was legally blind and sensitive to sunlight, stating that his genetic mutation, called Snow White, allowed him to negate any negative side effects of drugs. Even with Lt. Maxwell trying to bury Ivory the entire case, determined to see him hang, Phoenix Wright used this information, as well as the holes in Maxwell's evidence, to capitalize on the legendary Eyebrows Defense. Though initially questionable, the debatable fact that Ivory had no eyebrows, thusly further muddling his facial expressions and ability to interact with people, as a surprisingly large fact in the case. It pushed Ivory to question his own facial features, display more uncertainty about himself and ultimately reveal his more vulnerable side that rang true with the jury. In short, he was able to come across as a simple drug user and trauma victim rather than a drug kingpin of crime. A few days before the trial's verdict, Sakuya, Youmu, Mordred, Eldawin, and Beans & Jett, the accompanying Pokemon, went to visit Supreme Jessica Dubois at her house in the countryside. After taking down a small army of Black Shield officers, what they found inside was Dubois high on a full dosage of prototype Dolos Serum. Soon after their discovery, a voice started to speak from her phone, telling the group that they were interfering with "Salvation" and the implementation of the S.A.F.E. Act. After an IED explosion ruptured through the house, recorded footage of the group murdering Black Shields was forwarded to the Apollo News Network, where they became infamous overnight. The day of the trial's verdict, the court was stunned to share that all but one of the nine charges against Ivory, Simple Possession, had come back with a Not Guilty decision. During the judge's summarization of sentencing, two shots rang out in the court and the smoking barrel of Detective Keith Marshall's revolver billowed in the face of Lt. Maxwell, who tried to shoot Ivory dead. Det. Marshall was fast to jump in the way, sacrificing his arm to save the lives of the criminal and his defense team. In the midst of questioning stares and outbursts, Lt. Maxwell revealed himself to be a "Revelator" who represented justice and that he had planned to purge the Archipelago with a human purist philosophy steeped in religious zealotry. With a flick of his katanas, Lt. Maxwell beheaded the twelve jurors and bifurcated the Bailiffs before summoning a wave of one-thousand Black Shields officers as backup to help crush the heroes. During his battle with Sakuya, Avath, Orion, Youmu, Jackie and Gwen, he revealed various truths such as the fact that he was a six-hundred year old samurai and that he was one of the two benefactors that helped create the Dolos Serum. He also revealed that he reports to someone he calls "Second Adam" or "Adam", stating that he himself is a Prime Human, a human that struck a rare genetic lottery only after millions of other defected humans were born beforehand. While Mayor Katrina Masters, Nick Acer, Fengal and Rhodes culled through the Black Shield army near the courthouse, even managing to defeat railgun-mounted armored Jeeps and an AV-8B Harrier II, Hannah and Emeric worked quickly to kidnap Ivory in this armored military vehicle. Althoguh Rheuma tried to give chase, backup was called in the form of Sol Badguy to help in their escape, leaving Ivory's fate unknown. Maxwell's extraordinary physical capabilities acted as a catalyst to the centuries of swordsmanship he displayed trying to fight off Avath, Sakuya and the others, even summoning the assistance of multiple APD gunship helicopters to do battle on the roof of the courthouse. With his blessed blades, ancient techniques and arguably inhuman physical prowess, he made his mark in his struggle against the heroes. But this did not deter the heroes from finding an opening in his mortality, taking advantage of a brief respite to disarm him, constrict him and deal some devastating blows of their own, even going so far as to literally bite a chunk of his arm and sever one of his hands. With the help of Geist, Youmu, Avath, Sakuya and a fiery Jackie, Maxwell and his gunship helicopters were both incapacitated. Unfortunately, even with the killer of Supreme Hasubari and Supreme Phillips now behind bars in Tartarus, there are many questions that have yet to be answered and threats beyond the Arch that loom ever closer.
