Laws and Customs

High crimes: Use of major dark magic such as necromancy.

Major crimes: Impersonating a member of nobility, use of minor dark magic

Minor crimes: Interrupting a duel or pickpocketing a small sum.

Petty crimes: Operating a stall without a permit or shoplifting from a food stall.

Nobility: As a general rule, a crime against a member nobility will lead to whatever punishment the noble seems fit. Although it is illegal for nobles to abuse their subjects, it is not enforced.

Typically only those who belong to the nobility will be afforded a last name.

Those who are given title with no lands, branch families of the great houses, and fallen houses would be considered minor nobility. Minor nobles enjoy the status of nobles and are technically welcome at exclusive events, however, they do not have the power or wealth of the major nobility and can seldom afford such luxuries.

Slavery: Slavery is not illegal, on the contrary, it is often used as a punishment for severe crimes. Slaves are considered the lowest members of society. Sometimes people will sell themselves into slavery for a set amount of time as a way to pay off debts. Slaves are marked by a brand in the shape of a two links of a chain.

This list is not necessarily complete. A complex society will have many laws and traditions and I will not be able to list all of them. I will also not be including obvious crimes like murder and theft as those will be the same everywhere. This list contains the actions that need to be stated or may be unique to this country or setting.
