The Foyer

Written by Hephaestus.

Once clear of the door, visitors finds themselves in the foyer. At the far end is a stand where a guardian is always present to greet guests. This individual varies, although once someone has been to the inn, they are recognized by all of the staff. Regulars are waved on, but new visitors are stopped and the rules will be explained quickly and concisely:   "This is a friendly establishment. Any attacks, whether physical, verbal, psychic, metaphysical, or supernatural will be dealt with in a corresponding and generally proportionate manner. Damages to the facilities, furnishings, or staff, whether caused by yourself or resulting from any response to your actions will be added to your tab, along with a reasonable service charge. The management is not responsible for any loss or damage to your possessions or your personage. If you require lodging, please enquire at the window next to the bar."   At this point the door guardian will stop and say in a clear and definite voice, "It is very important that you remember this. Your exit is," and they will tell the visitor a combination of letters and numbers. They will they ask the visitor to repeat it back. Twice.   Once this is completed, the customer will be waved into the hall.   When leaving, all customers must stop at the stand and state their exit. If a regular gives an answer that is not their usual response, the guardian may raise an eyebrow, but the door will open to the named location. Customers who can't give a valid answer aren't allowed to leave.

Design

The foyer can comfortably hold a party of twenty over-sized guests. The lighting is warm and comfortably bright and comes from large glass domes mounted in brass fixtures high upon the tall walls. The floor is covered in a pale green carpet that feels strangely like walking across one of the greens on a golf course.   The walls are a warm grey color and very slightly rough. If someone with outstanding vision looks very closely, they appear to have been made from blocks stacked upon each other. No matter how fine a tool is dragged across the apparent seams, no gap is detectable.   There is no furniture in the room except a stand at the far end near the arch leading into the Main Hall.

Entries

At one end of the foyer is a door. This is entry and exit from the Worlds' End Inn used by customers.   At the other end of the foyer is an arched walkway into The Main Hall.
