A letter from Callus Riverwood to Sebastian Moon
“Sebastian, I pray you return to the castle in time. When you read this letter, the kingdom of Enther may be a different place than what we thought. I implore you, take heed of what I write my old friend, you are in grave danger. As you will know by now King Magnus is dead. The Prince has absconded, and I have been branded an enemy of the Crown. Years of servitude I have given to the Crown as Lord Commander of their armies, and in all those years I have never seen the truth of what our realm has become. Even now as I write, forces from within these walls plan to change life as we know it and I regret to say my hand has had a part to play. That traitorous bastard, our Prime Minister Alvar Birg seeks to over throw the Kingdom and take it for himself. I write to you as the castle is under siege with Birg’s devotees calling for my head. They claim I conspired with Prince Bann to assassinated good King Magnus and to take the crown for the young prince. He has even convinced my own comrades that I have conducted such a deed. I have no idea how this has happened, though I blame myself for letting the King come to harm. Prince Bann has fled the capital, and I write to you now from your chambers. I pray to the Five Gods that I can escape. I do not know who to trust. Sebastian, if I survive, find me. Bring only those you trust. I cannot let these men send our beloved Enther into disarray. I know your love for the realm and your trust me in me has never wavered. Please do not abandon me now in our darkest hour. May the Five God’s guide you my dear friend. Callus”
