Edwin Hackonson
King (812 - 821) (a.k.a. The Forgotten King)
The reign of King Edwin is not one that has made it's mark in the annals of history. Coming off the advocation of his father, James Hackonson who had committed himself to serve the Church of the Five shortly after Edwin's birth, Edwin would be named the successor to King Duncan Hackonson.
Tutored by his grandfather the King, Edwin showed all the early signs of a promising ruler. Kind, just and well educated.
When Edwin's father left for Kirkminster Abbey his mother, the Lady Nina Gransmith stayed on to look after her son. As her husband had advocated his royal title with the blessing of his father the king, James Hackonson's marriage to Lady Nina was annulled and her honorary title of princess was revoked along with it. She remained on at court however through her son's childhood.
At eighteen Edwin joined the Royal Army as per the custom of the royal family, serving as a soldier for two years before coming a Knight of Enther. After his service he returned to the capital to advise on The Royal Council and to learn from his grandfather. During this time the topic of who Prince Edwin would take to be his wife and queen. Edwin, who normally welcomed his duties, was abnormally disengaged when it came to the topic of his future queen. Any suggestion from his mother, the council or the king himself was met with a lack enthusiasm and a vague reasoning behind why the match would not be suitable.
As the years progressed and the heir to the throne had still not taken a wife rumours begun to circle in the capital that Prince Edwin did not take to the company of women and instead engaged with other men. His retinue of handsome men of arms, squires and servants fuelled the rumours. Historians record that the King himself confronted Edwin about these rumours alongside Lady Nina and his uncle Prince Donald Hackonson, royal admiral of Enther. During the discussions Edwin supposedly did not confirm or deny the rumours but instead insisted that if he brought such shame on his family he would happily advocate the throne. The King however would not allow this, claiming Edwin to be best suited to be his heir and to follow the duties given to him by birth right. The meeting is said to have ended with Edwin storming from the room with the King demanding he returned. It is said in his fury that King Duncan, now in his eighties, attempted to follow Edwin but fell. As a result the king broke his hip, which would prove to be the beginning of King Duncan's ill-health in the years to come leading up to his death.
For the following few years the subject of Edwin's unwillingness to wed caused a wedge between the King and the prince. Lady Nina, despairing of her son's stubbornness, decided she would return to Stones End. His father James, now a High Father of the church, ignored his son's letters for advise despite Edwin constantly reaching out. As the prince was shunned he became recluse finding solace only in his close companion and protector, Sir Cole Seldry.
In 812 ABA King Duncan would pass away from a chill leaving a legacy that no king since the Hero King himself had made. A week after King Duncan's death, Edwin was crowned King of Enther. Edwin's coronation was a solemn affair and once the celebrations had subsided the subject of a Queen soon raised it's head again. Unexpectedly, the new king already had a plan. He would take Sera Seldry as his queen, sister of his personal guard and close companion Sir Cole. The lords of the Royal Council opposed the kings wishes, but Edwin gave them one chance to be on board or to leave the council.

It is much rumoured and strongly believed that King Edwin preferred the company of men. Though never confirmed, it is believe that Edwin and his constant companion Sir Cole Seldry were indeed lovers, fuelled more so by the suicide of King Edwin weeks after the death of his knight.
