Session Forty-One: Where In The World Is Galrik?
General Summary
The session started with Nyx and Cora helping Keyla (the second aspect of Mystra) heal the rescued followers of Mystra. Keyla channels her inner magic and restores Cannella and Sneatcha ability to connect to the weave and magic. After gathering the Sevius and the Mystra followers, Keyla teleport them back to safety. Nyx and Cora search the remaining areas to see if anything were overlooked before rejoining the rest of the group as they prepare to go through the gate.
On the other side of the gate, Galrik moves in to attack Istivin’s mount before it can take to the air. Galrik lands a solid blow against the beast as it staggers from it. Istivin tries to cast a spell on Galrik but it fails to take effect. Istivin’s mount lashes out at Galrik biting and clawing Galrik while trying to fly up. Galrik strikes back at the mount connecting with it as it breaks to the air killing it and throwing Istivin to the ground. Istivin staggers back to his feet and casts a second spell at Galrik. Galrik is able to resist the affects as he closes in to deliver a killing blow to Istivin. Galrik smirks and tells Istivin that he was going to finish him like he promised as Istivin gasp his last breath.
Galrik turns and looks down the hill below him and sees the forces of the Zhentarian fighting a militia. Before Galrik joins the fight, Galrik notices a strange carriage just outside the woods. Galrik makes his way over to the carriage and notices the driver appears to be dead. The carriage appeared to be reinforced with a strange metal and had a strange crest on the side of it. Galrik decided to open the door to see what was in the armored carriage. When Galrik turned the handle he was hit with an electrical charge. In a blink of an eye Galrik found himself inside the carriage sitting on a bench unable to move. Next to him sat a male subject which Galrik noticed had a Protector tattoo on his right forearm. Across from Galrik sat a rather large human male. On his neck was a tattoo of a Destroyer. The Destroy glared at Galrik and then smiled revealing several rotten teeth. The Destroyer stated how much he was going to enjoy ripping apart Galrik. Galrik tried to use his breath weapon and nothing happened. The Protector tells Galrik they are bound by some type of magic and noted none of his abilities are working. The Protector asked if Galrik answered the call too for Dragonbowl. The Protector remarked the Taskmaster was looking for special participants when he answered to enter the games. The Protector stated when he entered the carriage he found he was bound and trapped. The Protector in not sure what will happen when they arrive at their final destination. The Destroyer remarked it is where I will claim your souls as he spits at Galrik.
The group passes through the gate and appears in the edge of an old forest. Nyx looks around and notices several woodland creatures are fleeing deeper into the woods from the clearing. Nyx tells Cora and Cora stops a rabbit to ask it what it is fleeing from. The rabbit tells Cora the guardian of the grove is gone and a dark force is growing below. The rabbit is fleeing for safety as the darkness brings death. Cora asks a tree where the guardian of the grove is and the tree did not know stating it feels a cold darkness in the guardian of the grove’s tower. Nyx steps to the edge of the woods and feels the power of a weave nexus under her feet. Below in the clearing Nyx sees the forces of the Zhentarian fighting against a struggling militia. Nyx recognizes the tower as belonging to Elminster. Nyx yells to Cora they need to help as Nyx takes to the air to combat the Zhentarian skymages. Cora enchants her quarterstaff which transforms into a treant and commands it to attack the Zhentarian forces. Cora hops into Iris pouch as they fly towards the tower.
One of the skymages sees Nyx and hits her with a fireball. Nyx flies through the blast and attacks one of the skymages. The skymage struggles to hang on to the mount as Nyx connects with several blows. The skymage’s mount lashes out and bites Nyx as the skymage recovers. Nyx attacks again and kills the skymage. The mount flies around Nyx trying to bit at her and misses. The other skymage hits Nyx with a fireball. Nyx turns and attacks the mount dealing a killing blow to it. The mount falls to the ground crushing several Zhentarian forces as it lands on them. Nyx flies towards the other skymage and attacks. The other skymage tries to counter and hits Nyx with another fireball. Nyx fights through the explosion and connects with the skymage. The skymage tries to regain his footing when Nyx kills him. The skymage’s mount swings around snapping at Nyx. Nyx avoids the snapping jaws of the mount and counter attacks killing the mount. Nyx looks around and see Cora in the battle below. Nyx moves in to help.
Down on the ground Cora casts a spell causes large vines and grass to grow out of the ground and attack any evil creatures. The vines connect with a few of the Zhentarian foot soldiers crushing them. A large ogre sees Cora and moves to her swinging at Cora with a Zhentarian soldier helping. Cora’s treant steps in front of the ogre and attacks it. Cora throws a snowball at the Zhentarian soldier as Iris kicks him. The ogre unleashes several blows against the treant destroying it. Cora’s vines stikes the Zhentarian solider killing him. Cora tries to cast spell at the ogre and discover’s the school of magic the spell belongs to does not work. The ogre moves to attack Cora when Elminster’s tower explodes throwing debris on the battlefield below. Cora wildshapes into a dinosaur but encounters a wild magic surge due to the destruction of Elminster’s tower. Cora attacks the ogre but the affect of the wild magic cause her to sneeze gold pieces while attacking. The ogre counters Cora’s attack hitting her several times. The wild magic causes Cora’s vines to attack everyone include Cora forcing Cora to dismiss it. Cora claws back at the ogre hitting him staggering him. The ogre gains a second wind and hits Cora forcing her out of wild form. Nyx flies down and gets a final blow on the ogre killing him.
With the help of the other group members, the militia is able to fight back and route the remaining Zhentarian forces. Nyx examines the ruins of Elminster’s tower and found the Zhentarian with the help of Shar followers used shadow magic to tear the weave which caused a surge destroying the tower. The weave is unstable causing wild magic effect to any magic casted in the area. The militia gathered their injuried and dead and set up a field hospital. Lucas, the head of the militia, introduced himself to the group. Lucas tells the group the militia is the last remaining militia in Shadowdale stating Lord Mourgrym Amcathra is rumored to be surrendering to the Zhentarian forces. Lucas offers a place to rest at the village of Shadowdale which is not far from the battlefield.
Thundur, while helping the militia, notices several dead mercanaries working for the Zhentarim had the Iron Ring crest. Thundur asks the group to look around as the Iron Ring should have a camp nearby. When asked why Thundur tells the group he has been searching for the Iron Ring and may have some information he needs. As the party begins to look for the camp, Nyx and Cora discover Galrik is missing. Nyx sends a message to Galrik. Galrik tells Nyx about the carriage and what happened to him. Galrik adds the carriage appears to be moving. Nyx relays the information to the group. Thundur tells Nyx the carriage sounds like a special containment carriage the Iron Ring uses and the Iron Ring should be heading back to Waterdeep and would be taking secondary roads. The group prepares to try to locate the Iron Ring’s carriage as the session ended.
