Session Forty-Six: The Dark Portal
General Summary
The group decided to try to close the portal and travel to the Grinding Gulf Mountains to find the Black Tower. On top of the Grinding Gulf Mountain the group finds the remains of a destroyed tower. Exploring the ruins Nyx discovered a cave entrance in a crevice below the ridge line. The group entered the cave to find a locked double door with a sigil. Nyx unlocks the door and the group proceeds to enter a crypt of Alokkair.
The group enters a main chamber with several stone sarcophagi stand in burial niches in the wall. Two large pillars support the ceiling above. As the group entered the chamber, Nyx sees a creature hiding near one of the pillars. Warning Galrik about the creature, it springs and attacks the group. The group attacks the creature and overcomes it. After searching the chamber, Nyx finds a secret door and the group proceeds into a new chamber with a set of double doors at the end. On both sides of the hall are figures in ancient tarnished plate armor with icy swords standing guard. Nyx proceeds to check the doors as Galrik inspects one of the plate armor figure when it attacks the group. The group fights off the armor figures and turns their attention to the doors. Nyx pulls the doors open which leads in a large chamber with a chasm.
On the other side of the chasm is a ledge with a set of doors. Flying through chamber are huge boulders which would collide and bounce off the walls. The group decides to fly across the chamber narrowly avoiding the boulders as the collide all around them. Moving across the ledge to the door Nyx unlocks them and the group proceeds in. The group enters a chamber with several statues in various different poses. The group spreads out checking the chamber but does not find anything. Nyx locates a door which she unlocks and the group moves through it.
The group enters a large chamber and sees a beholder in the center of the chamber. It turns to face group as Galrik runs to attack it and proceeds to fall into a pit. Nyx notices something is off with the beholder as she disbelieves the illusion as it fades. Galrik climbs out of the pit and rushes forward before hearing Nyx say the beholder is not real and falls into another pit. Nyx moves up and helps Galrik pointing out the illusion which Galrik finally sees through. The group makes their way through a set of double doors at the end of the chamber.
Inside the new chamber the group sees an old battered mosaic tile floor with several sylvan scenes painted on the wall. In the center of the chamber is a large bronze gong. Galrik goes up to the gong to investigate it as two flaming skulls appears and attacks the group. The group fights off the flaming skulls and proceeds to open a set of doors into a hallway. There were two sets of different doors in the hallway. The group heads north and enters into Alokkair’s refuge. Alokkair appears before the group offering a deal. Nyx hears out Alokkair and Alokkair explains Despayr stole a locket of his daughter’s he wants back. If they return it, Alokkair will tell the group how to be able to tap the weave and use magic against the rift which is growing bigger. Nyx agrees and Alokkair tells Nyx about a glyph he placed as a precaution which activated will allow the use of the weave for a period of time. Alokkair warns their magic may turn against them if used close to the weave. Alokkair points out a secret entrance to the ritual chamber. The group departs through the secret entrance.
The group enters a large chamber and notices a lone figure reciting a chant in front of a large rift which is growing larger. A cold chill hangs over the chamber as the shadow weave is being pulled through the rift. Nyx finds the glyph and activates it as the group attacks the figure. Galrik moves up and attack while Core summons a dinosaur. Nyx fires off several blasts at the figure. As Galrik gets closer to the figure the rift draws from him damaging him. The dinosaur turns on the group being tainted by the shadow weave. Cora attacks it as Nyx focus and attacking the figure. Galrik fights against the figure but is hit with a spell holding him in place. The rift hits Galrik draining him more. Cora and Nyx finish off the dinosaur as Cora tries to save Galrik by moving earth beneath Galirk dropping him into a pit. The figure dispels the spell burying Galrik. Nyx moves forward and finishes off the figure. With a flash of light the spirt of Syluné appears and uses the last of her life force to close the rift causing it to implode leaving obsidian glass behind. Cora transforms into an earth element and digs Galrik out before he dies. The group discovers the figure is Evelyn Graycastle, a high priestess of Shar. As the group heals they hear a roar of dragon from across the chamber and prepare to meet it.
