Shadowborn’s Estate
Purpose / Function
Lady Kateri Shadowborn's estate was originally built as a place for her to find solace and retreat from the world after the tragic murder of her husband. As a paladin of Torm and a noble, Lady Shadowborn sought to create a sanctuary where she could live a quiet and peaceful life, away from the politics and danger of the world. The estate was designed to be self-sufficient, with large gardens, a small farm, and a chapel where Lady Shadowborn could continue her worship of Torm. She also hoped to use the estate as a place to train and mentor other paladins in the service of Torm. However, after the estate was transported to Ravenloft, its purpose has been twisted by the dark powers of the realm, and its once vibrant and peaceful nature has been corrupted by the ravages of time and evil.
Design
Shadowborn's estate was once a grand and vibrant estate, with sprawling gardens, towering turrets, and opulent furnishings. The estate was known for its beauty and elegance, with many guests coming to visit and admire its splendor.
However, after being transported magically to the realm of Ravenloft, the ravages of time and the corrupting influence of the dark powers have taken their toll on the once-beautiful estate. The gardens have withered and died, the turrets have crumbled and collapsed, and the once-luxurious furnishings have been reduced to dust and decay.
The air around the estate is heavy with an eerie silence, broken only by the occasional creaking of old timbers and the rustling of dead leaves. The sky above the estate is always dark, and the moon is always full, casting an eerie glow over the ruins.
Despite its ruined state, the estate still holds many secrets and dangers for those brave enough to venture inside. Rumors abound of strange creatures lurking in the shadows, and of lost treasures hidden within the ruins.

History
Shadowborn Estate was once the home of Lady Kateri Shadowborn, a noble and paladin of Torm. She built the estate to live a peaceful life away from the troubles of the world after her husband was murdered. Lady Shadowborn was known for her devotion to Torm and her kindness towards the people of her land.
However, tragedy struck when a member of the Monastic Order of the Fist named Tso brought Ebonbane, an evil sword of Bane, to the estate. The sword awakened and began to kill Lady Shadowborn, her servants, and her faithful steward, Galrik. Only one servant survived the massacre and buried Lady Shadowborn and Galrik in the estate's crypt before going mad.
The evilness of Ravenloft, influenced by an evil deity, pulled Shadowborn Estate into its realm to obtain the power of Ebonbane. The once-vibrant estate now lies in ruins, its buildings and grounds corrupted by the ravages of time and the influence of Ravenloft. The estate is now inhabited by undead creatures and other monsters, and its cursed halls are said to be haunted by the ghosts of Lady Shadowborn and her faithful steward.
